Are there any free sites where i can talk to psychologists, or someone similar through email?

Question:
i need help with some things, but i think i might just need to talk to someone about it, through email or chat. Are there any sites that offer that service for free?

Answers:
You can ask a question and receive an answer from a professional in the "mental health" section of the forums on http://www.medhelp.com

Alternatively, you could post the question here.

I have it on good authority that some of us here are mental health professionals, ourselves.
If you have blue cross blue shield insurance you can log on to their webpage and join their "Blue Access For Members" Personal Health Manager and talk for free to them that way.
I know there are some psych-thru-email sites. But I have never come across any that are free.

There is an organization called "befrienders". They deal with suicidal or self harm thoughts. They have a hotline and email and they're free. So if that's the sort of thing you need, they're pretty good.

Good luck.
This is a tough question. Yes, there are probably a good number if health care professionals here; however there are also a lot of "wanna-bes". A true health care professional is probably not going to give any clinical advice on here or over e-mail because mental health is very complex and at times dangerous. I'm a therapist myself and I see it very unethical to try to treat someone over the internet because you do not get the whole picture. Half of communication in therapy is probably body language. Also, because mental health can be dangerous, I would not even attempt to treat someone over the internet because if something went wrong, most malpractice insurance probably isn't going to help you outside of your practice. Because there are also a lot of "wanna-be's" I would be very cautious of who your talking to, because you might find that "wanna-be" and they may do more harm than good to you. These are my personal opinions, and I think most professionals are going to agree with me, the ones why are willing to talk to you, might be those "wanna-be's". I would really try to avoid "internet-therapy" but there are some good support websites sometimes with chats from other similiar people that might help.
