Is face picking a mental problem?

Question:
im always picking at my beard constaly , i dont even realise it but when i look at my shirt i can see my beard hairs on it. my chin hairs are short because i always pick at them constatly

is this a mental problem, or just a bad habit?

Answers:
I would have to say it's a form of Obsessive-Compulsive. I do it to my skin, unfortunately. For me it stems from a feeling of anxiety and wanting perfection (for example flaky skin & clogged pores bug the heck out of me). If you only have a mild case now, I would suggest trying to get it under control now before it becomes a constant habit and you end up ruining your skin. Unfortunately I have not been able to stop mine, but I have attempted to reduce how often I do it. Good luck.
it is just a habit just put your mind to it and you will stop.
Yes, there is a mental disorder that makes people pluck their hair compulsively. You may also be suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I would recommend seeing a therapist. Both conditions can be treated with meds.
It depends on how bad your habit is. If you start picking at your hair on your head or maybe the hair on your arms then it might be trichotillomania. If you notice that you do it when you are stressed or maybe depressed then you might havce this condition.
I would say a bad habit. A gross one too.
