How much does Prozac effect your personality?
Question:
Answers:
It won't change your personality. Just make you less depressed.
I was prescribed this 6 years ago for some mild depression I was going through due to my life around me. I tried it, but quickly got off. I no longer enjoyed sex after being on it a month, and had a very hard time feeling anything. I could not really cry, but also could not really laugh hard either. I was kind of mellow all the time, but it was more zombie like than a good thing.
when I took it it helped a great deal. it takes a while for it to accumulate enough in your system to feel the medicine working, but once it does you will notice a decrease in the anxiety level. For me it was the panic decreasing and the ability to focus on the task at hand and not be so upset because I was panicking. the only side effect I had from it is that I felt like I was in a daze sometimes...you know...kind of like daydreaming but not as so to ignore what was going on around me.
It doesn't change who you are, except in the sense that a mental illness is part of who you are (just like a heart condition, or a stomach ulcer). It's not moving your personality in a different direction, it's taking you from negative whatever (biological disease state) to zero or positive whatever(normal function, however you want to look at it).
It maakkeess yyyooouuu sseeeeeemmm reeeeaaalllll sllloooowwwww.
As long as your prescribed dosage is no more than 20 milligrams (the recommended dosage for anxiety), there should really be no change in your personality. It may cause drowsiness for the first few weeks, and you really won't notice a change in your anxiety for another month or so. Even if the affects don't show up immediately, DON'T STOP TAKING IT! The chemicals have to be activated in the brain which can take anywhere between 4-6 weeks.
Prozac has been stigmatized a lot through the years, however, I have found it to be the most effective of many anti-depressants.
I took it for about 2 months and I got off that real fast. It made me very very irritable. I also lost interest in sex. Prozac is more for depression. Xanax helps with anxiety. Maybe you should check more into it before you go on it.
It shouldnt affect your personality but if you have trouble withy Prozac after trying it. Talk to your doctor about Paxil same kind of medicine effective for depression and Anxiety but way less side effects. Ive been taking for almost 10years but its best to take these kinds of medicines before you go to bed. It sometimes make you drowsy
My husband takes Prozac. All I have to say is thank God for Prozac! He is so much easier to deal with and to live with, when he remembers to take it every day that is... You just need to try it for about a month to see how it will affect you. Everyone will react differently to different medications. But at least try it out to see if it helps you. Good luck.
Here's the thing...medication for depression/bipolar is never the same for all people. In my experience it's the biggest crap shoot on the face of the earth. No 10 people are going to have the same reaction to Prozac as you do.
If you feel that the dosage you are on is starting to affect your personality more than it's helping your panic attacks, then you need to have the prozac dosage adjusted.
Prozac may not be your best choice for anxiety. I took it for nearly a year but, had to stop. It made me feel numb. I didn't feel anything or care about anything.
My problem is depression, not anxiety. Your doctor can recommend an appropriate anti-anxiety med. Good luck.
I was on this drug for about 9 months, 40mg, and really didn't feel anything at first. I was injured at work and on workmans comp at the time, so yeah I was feeling bad. My doctor said that it would help if I wanted to try it, so I agreed. I would suggest never to go on this drug to anyone that I know. In those nine months I felt that I was kinda like a shadow of myself, it almost felt that you were not really living but just coasting day to day, not really good at all. After I started to realize this I immediately quit taking the drug. I felt like crap for at least a month coming off of it. It's hard to explain, but once you are on it you will see. I look back now and don't remember much at all. If you are on it for years, I feel sorry for that person, unless they like that their lives are just living Zombie like! Dont take it, say hell no, I'll deal with my problems head on, and feel better after the fact?
