Okay.. Um my sister has the same problem and she got over it.. She had the same EXACT problem.. weird, huh? Well I know how you feel and it is excellent that you repeat that memory verse because you know what you are doing'?? You are re-assuring yourself that everything will be okay.. Always remember that God is with you. Even in thunderstorms! Just whenever a thunderstorm is coming, be around people or call a friend. (if the call can get through..)

Also another helpful tip is to try yoga. Yoga helps to calm nerves and helps with your behavior according to the studies.. I have some great yoga books made just for girls! Maybe buy a book or two, and try it out.. But here is one simple yoga step: breathe in, breathe out! This simple yoga step will help! I promise you! This will calm your nerves and the step is real basic...
take a deep breath and try to find something to keep u occupied were u dont think about it as much
You should get your favorite teddy bear or fav stuffed animal and hold it while your scared. even have like a rock angel to hold in your hand and rub it when your scared (you can buy them in hallmark stores)
Good Luck~
Just think about it.. when you hear thunder, Its not going to hurt you, and it is the end of lightning.. which is the more dangerous

all thunder is, is air slamming back together.. it wont do you any damage

When it is thundering out.. i would try talking to someone.. at the house/school/where ever you are.

maybe even listen to music.. and if the electricity goes out just.. play a board game or cards *candlelight*

sing .. i love to sing, and it helps me through a lot of my problems

^-^ hope i helped
Its ok to be scared! Its ok to recite the 23rd psalm! Another thing I would do is carry a flash light with you so you have light at all times right in your hand. If the noise bother you buy a pair of ear plugs so it isn't so loud. If the lightning bothers you shut the curtains and watch tv or read a book. If the power goes out you will be prepared with your flashlight buy extra batteries to have in the house for spares. I used to be scared myself for many years, I think it is normal. I bought my kids bubble gum when we had a thunderstorm I'd let them have a piece and they would blow bubbles, this distracted their thinking and they weren't scared. I hope I helped. Hugs! Von
