CBT.my first appt is tomorrow, and i am so nervous...?

Question:
I just want to know what to expect with my new counsellor on the first and on-going sessions.
What will she expect me to do?
I am know that i NEED to go, but am so nervous, that i am thinking about not going..HELP!

Answers:
Hey. Calm down. Basically on your first appointment your counsellor will just talk to you about why you came, what your problems are, etc. And trust me, they don't expect you to tell them everything right away, because it takes time to build a relationship.

The counsellor will just ask you some questions and you can ask her some too.
Once a relationship between the two of you develops, things will be much easier. You will look forward to meeting with your counsellor and getting help.

Just be as HONEST as you can with your counsellor. Truthfulness is important so that you can really work on your problems.

Good luck and don't worry. They are nice people.
CBT is supposed to be very good. Go along and be yourself. Keep calm and if you do feel overwrought, just tell your Counsellor. Believe me, they have seen it all. Good luck. Hope it helps you.
do NOT cancel, sit down, compose yourself

Try to be honest with yourself; say what you mean, mean what you say.
Be honest with her; she has (already) made the decision to help you, but that will only happen if you decide to tell her the truth and tell about yourself.
yes it means you will need to open up and you might have to confess a few things, but that is for the best and it will be kept in confidence.

Chill out, have faith and good luck
Don't be nervous. Don't worry about what will happen, just relax and be honest with the counselor. I spent my first few sessions bawling but eventually we started making progress and over 6 months I made a huge amount of progress.
After I did about 8 months I was ready to start weaning off the antidepressants and eventually did it. Good luck
CBT is great: go for it. There will be a lot of homework. In the end you will have to do it. The counselor will be there to guide you. Become an active partner in your own health treatment. Look up material on CBT, etc
i think your brave going- i've heard great things of CBT and your first appointment is your first step to overcoming your problems so hooray! Also if you don't like it, you can always run out naked screaming, just think of that, and it will put a smile on your face :0) Good luck
I am on my 7th appointment, like you I did not know what to expect. People tried to put me off, initially I thought it was making no progress, but I can assure you once you give it a change it will be very beneficial.

I suffered a major brain injury, I cant tell you how well CBT has helped me. Go to your appointment.
