Because the medical profession does not know what to do for it.
I don't know. I would have to say from best judgement from Movies and other media.
i don't exactly understand the question...ellaborate please?!
The use of "disorder" which means something is not normal or wrong.
The reason it is stigmatized so much is because so many people who don't suffer from it have claimed they do and abused the system and the courts to get money don't deserve or get away with a crime. It's not hard to pretend you have dual personalities/borderline personalities but it is hard for doctors to discredit someone who is facking it so most people feel like it's just a joke and don't believe anyone has it.
BPD is like having leprosy. Many doctors won't take us on as a patient because we are difficult, they are not sure what to do with us, and the accepted length of treatment is about ten years.
We fall somewhere in between the cracks because there are so many criteria that make up BPD. That's why many of us are on anti-psychotics -- we're borderline.
There is no cure for BPD but it is treatable. I've been in therapy for 9+ years and both my therapist and I know that I will always be in therapy -- not because I will necessarily need it, but I will want it.
Hope that explains things, at least that's the way I see it.
