Question about Lexapro??

Question:
Is there a generic version of it?

Not yet.it might be a few more years until the generic company will be able to make a generic...they have to wait until the patent is up for Lexapro.
Escitalopram (Lexapro) Information

Lexapro is the brand name. Escitalopram is the generic name
No. I was on Lexapro and hated it. I didn't feel like myself. Also, it diminished my sex drive and my ability to enjoy intimacy at all. It gave me strange dreams. Wellbutrin in the generic form costs the same and has less of those strange side effects. I am so glad I switched.
Yes it's called Escitalopram.

This is an SSRI so please, please be very careful when taking this and discuss the side effects(and the effects of other meds and herbal supplements you may be on) in full with your doctor.

Do your research and document any and all side effects you may have. Even if it's one you don't think is related to the drug. Every drug is different and every person is different so be sure to discuss even the slightest change with your doctor.

Some of the side effects of Lexapro are weight gain, sexual dysfunction, and insomnia.

However, when my aunt was on it, she experienced major anxiety and migraines. It effects everyone differently, so again be careful & document everything. Also, before you start taking it, make sure you are aware of the proceedure for stopping the drug. Some drugs you can just stop right away & others you have to stop gradually so it's not a shock to your system. This is especially important with SSRI's.

Best of luck to you!
Nope. Just the Lexapro. I'm paying a lot more through my insurance since there is no generic. Hopefully, they'll come out with it soon so I can save some money.

Add on: The previous poster said yes, but there is no generic. The name he gave you is the scientific name. Lexapro is the brand name and they are the only ones selling it. So, no , there is definately not a generic. I checked through my pharmacy and my insurance company. It is only sold under the name Lexapro.
