My mother suffers from depression...?

Question:
My mother suffers from depression and for a while she was doing great but for the past half year she has been staying home from church, hasn't been getting out and is constantly eating. She will say she is going to do something and then at the last moment says that she doesn't feel up to it. I know that her weight, which is around 210, is the main problem so how can I help her to lose weight? Please help me.

Answers:
Offer to go on walks with her. That way, she can spend some quality time chatting or just being with you, get some exercise, release some endorphins, and get used to being outside and active instead of inside all the time. Once going out and about becomes a habit - even if for only really short periods, like a stroll around the block - then it'll be easier for her to go out for longer periods and do other stuff that makes her happy.
The best advice I can give you is to get out and exercise with her. Start slowly with a 30 minute walk every day. Don't make it seem like work---stroll through your neighborhood or drive to a park to walk. Enjoy the scenery---seriously. Make it a pleasant experience. As time goes on, pick up the pace of your walks and extend the amount of time and distance.
Exercise is great for depression and we all know that it helps with weight-loss.
It may take some effort to get her out, but don't give up.
