My mother suffers from depression...?
Question:
Answers:
Offer to go on walks with her. That way, she can spend some quality time chatting or just being with you, get some exercise, release some endorphins, and get used to being outside and active instead of inside all the time. Once going out and about becomes a habit - even if for only really short periods, like a stroll around the block - then it'll be easier for her to go out for longer periods and do other stuff that makes her happy.
The best advice I can give you is to get out and exercise with her. Start slowly with a 30 minute walk every day. Don't make it seem like work---stroll through your neighborhood or drive to a park to walk. Enjoy the scenery---seriously. Make it a pleasant experience. As time goes on, pick up the pace of your walks and extend the amount of time and distance.
Exercise is great for depression and we all know that it helps with weight-loss.
It may take some effort to get her out, but don't give up.
