Prozac versus the rest of those damn meds?

My husband felt the same way when he tried meds. He says that his experiences with other meds, especially Paxil, was the best and that most people he's known (and he's known a lot of nut bars like me including his own father) have hated Prozac, but been okay on Paxil.
I know, I need to get back on another medication. Sure, it doesn't change life, but it gives an opportunity to make things better. Drugs are not the answer alone. I know that, but positive thinking alone is going to kill me. My husband says I should ask for Paxil. It's been a few years since trying meds, I quit Prozac years ago, but he says it's okay to tell a psychiatrist, I want such and such an antidepressant, since it's all trial and error anyways. True? Should I ask for anything else or be specific?

IF you really feel that you need meds then yes ask for something else there are so many that with out knowing your symptoms I can not even start to say which one will help or could help. We are all different and it is trail and error but once you find that right med it will make all the difference to your life. I do feel you should also get some therapy as it will help a lot to not have to take meds in the long term. good luck take care talk with your doctor would be the best thing to do.
I take Prozac with Remeron and Klonopin, and absolutely love them, which is my point. I love them and they do not work for you.
Go back to your psychiatrist and ask for something else. There are lots of meds out there, and you will find one or more, that will work for you.
i have had prozac and trazodone and never would go back on them agian they werent right for me at moment iam on serterline and flupinthixol for my parinioa, you should go back to gp or psycs and tell them you want something thats right for you it took over 20 something tablets to get me right but there working now and my life is starting to look alot better good look and hope you feel better soon best wishes
I would not take any of that chemical pharmaceutical garbage.
It is a big con by those companies to make lots of money.
It may have something of a good effect, but invariably a number of serious side effects accompany it.
Any artificial chemical put into the body over a period of time will eventually destroy it (although for short term therapy, or for some other reason, it could be admissible).
Anything that the body needs (either psychologically or physically) can be found in nature - just look up natural health remedies to see this.
At one time I took Trazodone and Prozac. I felt like a human slug with Trazodone. The Prozac had a neater "perk!". I started having "choking" dreams and when I was awake, I thought I saw stuff! When I told my doc, she said, "I've heard of that happening". WHAT? Couldn't she have told me BEFORE?? I have anxiety, you know!! Lexipro is good, but Paxil is the one that works best for me! Call me a walking testimonial, but that stuff literally gave me my sanity back! I requested it after I'd gone in for a mammogram(did u know they can actually squeeze a flatty like me in those machines?) AND the woman doing it said it changed her life, that Paxil. I also heard it from my dr.'s assistant. Sooooo, think about it. The first couple weeks I was tired, tired, tired! And extremely nauseas, BUT after that, the "stuff" kicked in and I feel 98% better! The other 2% is just my normal neuroticism...I prefer to think of that 2% quirk, okay maybe 5%, part of my "charm!".
