What's worse- smoking, or drinking to excess?
Question:
Answers:
Any amount of either can kill you?
Generally though smoking kills you over years (unless you have an accident lighting up e.g. car accident or lighting up where there's a gas leak). Alcohol can kill in one night if you drink too much for your body (if you've got a weak liver it could only be a few drinks that does it and you don't necessarily know if you have a weak liver).
So, as a rule neither is worse, as both can be anti-social and deadly. Both smoking and alcohol consumption are addictive!
I am a smoker myself who's tried to give up on a number of occasions I can't take nicotine replacement I'm illergic to them, the stop smoking drug gave me nasty side effects, hypnotherapy didn't work and Allen Carr's books and DVD didn't work.
For Robin L smoking isn't totally banned but it's banned from all indoor public places and workplaces.
does it really matter which will kill you quicker... keep doing either in excess and you can end up with some severe problems in your later adult life... COPD... being one that effects many smokers and a shitty liver possibly liver failure... from drinking.
Personally I think drinking to excess is worse. Working in a night club, I can see that the new 24 hour drinling law results in more accidents envolving A&E, fights etc. The smoking ban was good in a way but I think the antisocialness by drinkers needs close attention.
Shouldn't people be able to smoke if they feel like it. I don't but i think that it's a personal choice.
Drinking to excess is worse.
When you smoke to excess, you usually only kill yourself (and maybe your spouse who breathes the second hand smoke) But when you drink to excess, you often kill others in road accidents, brawls, etc. And you ruin your family financially.
Of course, any smoking at all is smoking "to excess", while moderate drinking is healthy for you. That is the difference you are really looking for.
Alcohol has greater short-term effect on your body.
Alcohol has a greater long-term effect on your body.
Cancers have NOT yet been PROVEN to cause cancer although several 'experts' claim they do.
People smoking a cigarette whilst driving don't lose control and career into a bus stop packed with people.
Smoking doesn't cause people to start fighting because their aggressive nature has been released.
More people have died from alcohol related incidents than have died from 'cancer caused by smoking'
I leave it to you to decide which is worse.
drinking. you can still drive while smoking. but you cannot drive when you are drunk.
Tough one but I'd say smoking has the edge because some doctors will say an occasional glass of wine is good for you but cigarettes are damaging full stop.
nicotine is far more toxic than alcohol. Smoking kills other people far more than alcohol does, that's the point you are missing. You can smoke on your own if you want.
sober is the worst
Alcohol is worse, if you have lived with an alcoholic for 20years - you can see the damage done, not just to them, but to all their family...it destroys people

they are both very bad for your health, but the thinking is that obviously you affect others when you smoke>
i say both.both kills all your good organs and poisons your body.so whats there to think about?
If you are looking at statistics of death alone, smoking is the greater killer. 50% of all current smokers will die as a direct result of their habit. Worldwide that is 350 million people a year.
Also moderate drinking is beneficial, teetotallers have a slightly higher mortality from heart disease than light drinkers. Any amount of smoking, however light, has a detremental effect on health.
both are as bad as each other
I would think drinking. Smoking is totally banned there?
I don't think smoking destroy's families alcohol does
Drinking the worst by far. Smoking to excess (60 a day?) may give one a disagreeable and fatal illness; but smoking is not mind-altering as drinking can be. Excess drinking damages your health and the lives of those around you.
I would say alcohol is worse physically as it attacks the liver and causes health problems faster than smoking
