Constant Nightmares?

Question:
I heard that stress and such led to night issues. Well, I have had many issues with my mother dealing with abuse and such toward myself and the family. I have had no contact with her for a few years, when she suddenly sends her new husband (Whom I detest) to find me at work. He actually stalks me for a week, people informed me of an older man looking for me, before giving me a letter pretty much telling me that she was upset about my decision not to see her and whatnot. I just graduated and it was my birthday and I usually recieve even something small, but I got nothing. Now since then I can't sleep, and once I do I have these horrible nightmares. None about her, just horrific things. Is there any way to perhaps stop this. Maybe mom isn't even the cause, I must want to get to sleep, even taking a nap has become difficult.

Answers:
When I use to talk to my mom on the phone, I used to go directly to the frig and grab any form of alcohol, but it became a problem when she'd call three times a day because she was feeling "mental." So, I did the sobriety thing and became uptight all day and had dreams everynight about choking. I would wake my hubby up because I thought I was choking on chains, turkeys, etc. Ya, a little strange. Stress follows us in our sleep. Have you tried melatonin? It's over the counter. Or maybe seeuing a regular doc for something? I take Paxil. Mom still drives me loony, but the med feeds my brain seratonin and gets me calmer faster. I sleep better too. Remember, your true parent(s) are the ones who raised and loved AND nutured you. My hubby isn't my kid's biological father, but he is their dad! Remember the movie, Mrs. Doubtfire? At the end he/she said the same thing, whether you were raised by auntie, gramma, whoever. Obviously, you owe mumsie nada! Keep her out your life, call the cops on stepdaddy next time for harassment and stalking. And you go have yourself an awesome life kiddo!!!!
If there is any way to patch things up with your mom, try & do it. Being distant from family is never a good thing. As for the nightmares, whenever I'm stressed or am having problems with family or friends I get nightmares too. Try to relax a little. I know it's hard. Try different things. Whatever calms you, do it before you sleep. It might help. Good luck
well it is possible to have nightmares because of the stress that is caused by this family conflict.if possible try to resolve things which might help with the nightmares since you will be more at ease...you could also try to write things down like your feelings and thoughts that are bothering you...this usually helps for me...write things down in a soothing environment...relax...think positive..sometimes we are so bothered by something that we might not know it but it is in our subconscious and many times this could cause troubled sleep, stress, anger, etc. also try not to think about the fact that you can't sleep even though it might see really hard to do...if you think about it too much you are automatically putting it into your mind and that could also not let you sleep...hope this helps...
