I think I'm insane?

Question:
About two years ago, for an acting audition, I started playing music while I practiced my lines. It helped me get into the mood of my character, so I did it again when I read lines for the next audition. With the music, I could imagine that the other actors were in the room with me even when I was practicing alone. Since doing it helped me so much, I eventually just got into the habit of playing music constantly.

However, in the past year I've started imagining that people (who started out as fellow actors, but have now morphed into "imaginary friends," if you will) who don't exist are in the room with me. I can be having a conversation with my brother, when out of nowhere I'll see one of them standing on the other side of the room. My mind is playing tricks on me and I'm halfway living in a dream world.

I don't enjoy talking to anyone now or being around my friends. I prefer the company of the imaginary people. I honestly think something is wrong with me. Am I going insane?

Just blow **** up with your mind

you can will yourself to do interesting things is one thing but I would seek help as part of some illnesses is withdrawing from people and being lost in the delusions. I suffer from schitzoaffective disorder and ocd so I know that its something that you should go see a doctor about. Only a mental health professional is qualifyed to give an answer to this question all I can do is say hang in there and dont give up. Please go see someone.
Do try to spend more time with your friends, our minds can play funny tricks, you are not insane, be of good cheer.
You asked a serious question and I'll try to give a serious answer.
Insanity is a strong word. The simple fact that you recognize that it is not normal and are willing to fix it is a vote in your favor.
It may simply be an overactive imagination and because you may subconciously be embarrassed that you are seeing these "imaginary friends" or "actors" you withdraw from your friends preferring to be alone, not necessarily preferring the company of the imaginaries.
In this case I would suggest you stop using this form of practice and avoid the music you commonly used for it for a while. Give yourself some space from it and time to get your imagination under control. Maybe conciously throw yourself into the activities your friends are involved in or into your work to keep your mind off of it.
On the other hand. This is serious enough for you to think you may actually have mental issues. So I could only suggest speaking with someone who has some expertise in psychology. Maybe a school counselor or a friend with a psychology background or schedule a visit with a professional. But you should speak to someone about it. Maybe by discussing it with someone, it will help you to put it into perspective and keep you from sinking too far into your "dream world".
i wish you all the best.
Keep a journal of when these thoughts occur. Do they happen more often if you are sad, bored, etc? If they are more spontaneous and you cannot find a pattern, especially if they are uncontrollable, it may be a sign of some psychiatric disorder. You sound like a very intellient person and i would not describe you as insane. Start off by talking to your doctor. He or she may be able to prescribe a medication or give you the name of a therapist to talk to, or you might turn out to be normal. Try socializing in very active things like going for walks, playing sports etc where you can't be so easily distracted. Good luck!
I think you should talk to your mom or your doctor. Sometimes it is okay to with drawl and want to spend time on our own but the delusions would worry me a bit, especially if you are not on any medication of sorts. I do know how you feel because at times I daydream and would rather stay there than deal with my real world existence, it is a coping mechanism for me but I cannot consciously move around and do things while I am daydreaming. That also worries me about your situation because you could be in a dangerous situation and be distracted by your delussions. Please, talk to someone asap. I would also like you to let me know how you are doing if you don't mind, you can email me if you would like. Good luck, Sweetie.
well..
okay i'll take a shoot at trying to answer this question. i could understand. Mainly because sometime i rather just be alone then with my friends. not because i dont like them but because sometimes they don't understand me or i feel like they dont understand me and they try to change me (i dont know if this is your situation)

but about the imaginary friends maybe you just have a wild imagination. but if it is kind of odd. i think your going a little to much into your own world. yes it probably is a lot more fun than reality but you have to realize its fake and all in your mind. if you spend to much time in your imaginary world you just might get trapt and they yes you will be considered insane. i could understand that you don't want to tlak to anyone or be around your friends and prefer the company of your imaginary people, because i also rather day dream then talk to people sometimes. its more fun than reality and makes a lot more sense at times. but again its not real so you have to involve yourself in the realworld more and not to much in you imagination.
so maybe talking about this with someone would be something healthy and sane to do. or pick up a hobby, draw, writing.

but i don't think your insane right now.
