Will taking 5-HTP as a natural mood enhancer negatively affect my birth control?

Question: I know that St John's Wort should not be taken if you are on birth control, because it may interact with the pills and decrease the effectiveness of the contraceptive. Will 5-HTP react the same way? Is there a "safe" dosage?

Answers:
My doc advised me that 5-HTP (100 mg a day) would not interact with my BC. To be safe, I'd ask a doctor though
