Waking up at night...?
Question:
Answers:
could it be that you are suffering from night terrors?
night terrors are images that you have dreamt, and come alive and appear as though they are real and in front of you when you open your eyes? after your eyes adjust, and your mind gathers itself, the image will fade, or walk out of a room, through a wall, etc, but it will feel as real as ever.
can you remember what you were dreaming of, before waking terrified? it might be possible to remedy this situation by pinpointing your fear, and eliminating it.
as you are probably being disturbed by something in your own mind, and like normal people, are not affected very much while sleeping, unless someone is talking to you while you are sleeping or tormenting you while you sleep. it most likely is psychological.
if the problem continues to get worse, or if it truly bothers you as it is now, you might consider seeing a psychologist.
I've heard of children having night terrors but not adults. Talk to a therapist about it. You might also try taking Tylenol PM to help you sleep through the night.
You might be getting over heated. Make sure your not getting too hot. if it keeps happening mabye you should see a therapist.
Hon, you should speak to Mom and Dad first, before you take any medications for sleep. Let them know about your waking at night with night terrors, they may have help available to you that you don't know about. They are your first stop, do it, do it now, Hon.
It sounds like panic attacks, which can be triggered by a number of things, but I'll tell you what worked for me when I had them really bad about 12 years ago (the same way, waking up freaking for no reason at all): cutting out ALL caffeine. You may want to try it if any of these apply to you:
1. There is nothing out of the ordinary happening in your life;
2. You consume more than one or two cups per day of coffee or other caffeinated drinks like colas or Mountain Dew or energy drinks like Red Bull and Monster - or you consume a good bit of chocolate daily
3. You find that over-the-counter decongestants keep you from falling asleep easily, and prescription ones make you very wide awake.
If none of those apply to you, there may be something else going on that I'm not qualified to guess at. If you do decide to cut out caffeine to see what happens, it might take a little while to get out of your system completely - it took me about 2 weeks before the panic attacks totally stopped. Good luck, I know how bad that sucks!
