I feel that my mind will not let my body fall asleep. How do I stop this?
Question:
How do I stop this? My mind is thinking to much about sleep when it should be just close my eyes and sleep.
I am sorry if you cannot understand me; English is my second language.
Answers:
Okay this is from a computer related insomnic since 2001. I have tried everything from ambien to vitamins.
You said your mind won't let your body fall asleep right? Ok, I would see your doc and ask for remeron or ambien or elavil, all excellent choices.
If you don't want "medical intervention" try walking, avoiding caffine and chocolate after dark, turning off the tv, and lights 15 mintues before you go to be, and if you have something on your mind talk to a friend before bedtime.
vitamins:
st. john's wort, valerian root, melatonin, and allergy drug diphenhydramine.
I leave the radio or TV on while I'm falling asleep, so that way I don't lie awake thinking about my troubles.
Ok when you're lying in bed close your eyes and slowly breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. when you breath in count slowly to 2 and when you exhale count to 4 slowly. Over time this should help you get the sleep you need. Contact me if you need anything.
I had the same experiences. Growing up, I had extremely anxious thoughts about sleeping, etc. I think you're having some kind of obsession with sleeping; because you realised that a very active mind can keep you from sleeping, you now focus on sleep too much. You have an obsession about whether you will be able to sleep and this also keeps your mind racing and prevents sleep. I assume you're anxious about things, sleeping included, as well. I would suggest that you get a light sleeping med just to get you into the routine again and just to have that thought that there is a back-up if you can't fall asleep by yourself. Don't take the over-the-counter stuff; they make you feel terrible. Ask your doc to prescribe something.
I sometimes have this same problem . . . my mind is busy, busy, busy thinking (not about sleep, but just inane things). I have found that by thinking some very innocuous and boring refrain over and over, it bypasses everything else going on in my brain, and I'm able to fall asleep. I grew up Catholic, and though I no longer practice any religion, those daily prayer are still in my memory. I think the "Our Father", "Hail Mary" and "Glory Be" prayers in my head. My mind stops racing about other topics, and I bore myself to sleep. :)
Good luck!
Join the crowd honey. If you can't sleep because you are having racing thoughts you may want to see a doctor because it sounds as if you may be having some sounds of Bipolar Disorder (manic thoughts) it means even though the body wants to shut down for sleep your mind is racing and it makes you unable to go to sleep. There is medication that can help with it so you may need the help of a therapist to help get some of the stuff off of your mind or you may need a doctor to prescribe something for you to help you out. Good Luck
When your mind is thinking about things that have or may happen, then sometimes it effects your sleep. I suggest you try a 'relax' routine before you go to bed. Have a nice warm bath, lots of lavender smells, a cup of warm milk, and a book that takes your mind off things, that's not too exciting. If you still can't sleep go to your doctor and explain your symptoms he may give you a sedative or try a herbal remedy like Valerian extract etc

This probably happens everyone now and again, and more often as they get older.
Possible treatments:
1) Walk until your body is tired.
2) Walking meditation.
3) Close curtains or open them.
Change your attitude to sleep: regard it as being absolutely vital to leading a healthy life! Studies show that lack of sleep cause an increased error, and accident rate. See sleep disorders, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris... on page 3. Practise one of the relaxation methods, on page 2, in bed, after lights out.
