Is it normal that somewith with bi-polar claims to be the son of god... or god himself?

Question:

Answers:
Absolutely! When a Bi-polar has a psychotic break hallucinations and delusions of grandeur are very normal. I see this all the time with my Bipolar patients. An anti psychotic along with a mood stabilizer should do the trick along with an acute in treatment therapy.
no its not normal
No that's not normal where bi-polar is a factor or not. Being bi-polar is said to make some people believe anything impossible.
Yes, that is very normal. It sounds like whoever this is might be having a period of mania. They might need their medication checked and possibly altered.
No. That's not just Bipolar disorder, it sounds like something much worse.
Yes, it is normal. Ppl with bipolar either are really depressed or they feel on top of the world and invincible.
Normal on a typical scale?
Or normal on a "bi-polar" scale?

If I'm not mistaken, bi-polar disorder leads to sudden and severe mood swings. It might lead to erratic behavior, such as shopping sprees or lavish parties on a mood-high and fights and negative interactions with people on a mood-low.

However, I've never heard of bi-polar disorder causing people to believe hallucinations or things that aren't true. Their perception of reality isn't altered, just their ~reaction~ to reality.

So, if a person honestly believed that they were God or the son of God, I'd be more inclined to think schizophrenia than bi-polar disorder.
No.

I have friends that are Bi-polar. "People" have a misconsuption that BP is the same as Schizophrania.

They are two different dissorders. Does your boyfriend use drugs? If he does then this can cause Hallucinations.

Other than that, it sounds like Schizophrenia.

He needs medical attention, but he also needs a medication advocate. If he is hallucinating that is NOT good.

Hey it sounds like they might be schizophrenic. This disorder causes hallutionations and delusions. It can be treated with the right kind of medicine that can help lead a happy and normal life.
Add delusional.
It can be a normal sign of an extreme manic episode for someone with bi-polar personality disorder but should not be disregarded. It's a sign that they probably aren't taking their meds or need them changed.

"Signs and symptoms of mania (or a manic episode) include:
Increased energy, activity, and restlessness
Excessively "high," overly good, euphoric mood
Extreme irritability
Racing thoughts and talking very fast, jumping from one idea to another
Distractibility, can't concentrate well
Little sleep needed
Unrealistic beliefs in one's abilities and powers
Poor judgment
Spending sprees
A lasting period of behavior that is different from usual
Increased sexual drive
Abuse of drugs, particularly cocaine, alcohol, and sleeping medications
Provocative, intrusive, or aggressive behavior
Denial that anything is wrong
A manic episode is diagnosed if elevated mood occurs with three or more of the other symptoms most of the day, nearly every day, for 1 week or longer. If the mood is irritable, four additional symptoms must be present." (National Institue of Mental Health)
Yes, my brother was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and he claims that he hears talk to him god sometimes.
Delusions of grandeur, in the manic phase sometimes occur. Because this disorder is often misdiagnosed, and that symptom may indicate another, possibly co-existing disorder, I advise consulting an expert in the diagnosis, and treatment of bipolar disorder, or seek a second opinion. This is made on the basis that he has been faithfully taking the same prescribed medications, for at least 2 months (many bipolar sufferers don't!). I expect his medications would include at least a mood stabiliser, and antipsychotic. Some modifications may be required, if he has been complying well with medications. What Are the Symptoms?
The primary symptoms of bipolar disorder are dramatic and unpredictable mood swings. The illness has two strongly contrasting phases.

In the manic phase:

Euphoria or irritability
Excessive talk; racing thoughts
Inflated self-esteem
Unusual energy; less need for sleep
Impulsiveness, a reckless pursuit of gratification -- shopping sprees, impetuous travel, more and sometimes promiscuous sex, high-risk business investments, fast driving
Hallucinations and or delusions
There are different types of Bipolar disorder. Those with bipolar II have very mild manic episodes. Those with bipolar I are capable of extreme manic episodes. One sign of a manic episode may be delusions of grandour. Today I wanted to jump from a rooftop and fly. Thankfully I have enought presence of mind to know that I am unable to fly and didn't attempt this, however tempting it was:) However, sometimes mania makes you feel as if you can do anything.
If you read the following you will see that it is possible.

A mnemonic used to remember the symptoms of mania is DIGFAST: [2]

* D = Distractibility
* I = Indiscretion
* G = Grandiosity
* F = Flight of ideas
* A = Activity increased
* S = Sleep (decreased need for)
* T = Talkativeness (pressured speech)

Delusional disorder:
Grandiose Type: delusion of inflated worth, power, knowledge, identity, or special relationship to a deity or famous person (e.g. see Jerusalem syndrome)
yeah thats normal - its just good old fashion mania thats all. When people are manic they can become psychotic and have delusions, such as delusions of gradeur which is what this sounds like.
Yes, in an extreme mania. I went through a period where I was convinced I was the antichrist and I wasn't even a christian then.
