What causes victim mentality?

I've heard and read that it is caused by an abusive childhood or someone important to you, like a parent, abandoning thier child. Is this correct?

What is the best therepy?

Can it ever be overcome?

How can I help someone that has this disorder?

Answers:
being victimized causes a victim mentality, your nurtured through this behaviour towards you to be the role of the victim. simple. the person needs cognitive behavioural therapy or psychotherapy to learn new ways of empowerment to no longer be the victim, which will take time.
