Question:
I work a 3rd shift factory job and I just wanna know what are my alternatives to staying awake. I sometimes feel lazy during the hours past 2am and my boss is close to firing me because of this, please help

Answers:
I had a 3rd shift job for about a year. Go to sleep around noon and get up around 8 or 9 pm. Drink plenty of coffee. Talk to other people or listen to music if that's allowed. Don't eat a lot of starchy food, it will make you sleepy. Concentrate on lean proteins, veggies. Good Luck. The world is so meant for day people, things got tough for me after around 5 in the morning.
You should take a nap for a couple of hours before your shift starts.
Take a nap during 2nd shift.
ENERGY DRINKS!
coffee
sugary candies
soda (not caffine free stuff though)
listen to music (ipod, mp3 player)
sleep during the day
cocaine. haha just kidding. those 5 hour energy shots from 7 eleven always do the trick for me, and i dont even start work until 4 am.
If you mean u work from like 11-7am like i do..

I sleep around 2-3 pm-7-8 pm wake up and relax eat travel to work.

i figured if i had kids nights is ok since. spend time with kids at like 5-10pm then go to work 11-730 8pm by time i get home since my city has extra buses at rush hour, spend time with kids before school and spouse before going to sleep in Afternoon.
wiggle or move around. Get STARBUCKS triple shots. try to keep your mind stimulated after 2am on something that you are interested in. Play games in your head. Listen to an IPOD.
Draw, do your work, anything to keep you awake. TRY TRY TRY.
ALSO try getting more sleep right before going to work. If you work 12-7 when you get home at 7am, dont go straight to bed wait a while watch TV do something outside take a walk. Go to bed later in the day and get up then go straight to work. Try room darkening shades or blinds, if the room is very dark you will get a better nights sleep.
It will take about 3 months to adjust to this. Or it did with me.
Boost with caffeine, take some Redline energy drink.it should give you the boost you need
you should get in a pattern, go to bed at the same time every day and try to get a full 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. i know that is hard to do when you work overnights, but that is life. and on your days off, still stay on your schedule. since you appear to be sluggish during the second half of your shift, maybe you should eat more energy enhancing foods, whole grains, fruits, veggies (avoid caffeines, sugars, etc as they will make you feel good for a little while but then you will crash and be even more tired). maybe try sleeping from 1-9 or something. good luck. 3rd shift is a crappy shift no matter how long you've been doing it. but it could be worse, you could be doing swing shifts.

also, if you don't like your job...maybe you should find a new one?
I work 12 hr. factory night shift. After 2am, we all seem to get tired- I think it is a natural thing for out bodies to do. My sleep patterns are messed up, so I can't help there. I will say, that I have cut down my caffeine intake greatly and drink a V8 or juice and have a cup of coffee only now and again. I do crosswords on my breaks or read whatever is laying about. I try not to watch the clock too much. I also try to eat before my 2am lull (around midnight for me)m then a snack about 4am. Overeating makes me tired. If you really can't do it - I would try to find another job and maybe a shift more suitable for you, better then getting fired.
Try speed, it works for me.
I drove from Tx to Oh and SOBE energy drink and Dr. Pepper with chocolate did the trick. There is also the option of taking caffeine pills. You need to get into a routine. A power nap might help but you run the risk of having that groggy not wanting to wake up feeling. Sleeping before work would probably be better, then try to stay awake for class.
