Your body is physically addicted to the alcohol now> That is why you have the shakes.
I would recommend a treatment program. I know it can be hard, but you seem to admit that this is a problem and that is the first step.
I wish you all the best and hope you are feeling better soon!
What do you believe drinking gives you? See that it doesn't and withhold judgment, and once you see through it, it's over.
First off, CONGRATULATIONS. You are making a wise decision to address your addiction head on.
That said, you need to know that inpatient treatment is really your best bet here. Given your hx of heroin addiction as well as the extent of your drinking (and the relatively quick onset of symptoms when withdrawing even briefly), I wouldn't recommend going about this any other way. It is important that you are physically monitored during what may be a difficult time for you.
In addition, a brief stint of inpatient treatment can also provide you with some of the tools you're going to need to STAY sober once you've detoxed.
Best of luck to you,
~M~
Please, please, please check yourself into an inpatient rehab facility. If you managed to kick heroin, you can kick this. Since outpatient therapy (AA) is not working, go to rehab. If you work hard at it, you will beat it. Good luck, and please take care of yourself. Let your family and friends help and support you.
You need to go to a rehab center. Detox from alcohol can be very difficult because it sounds like you are physically addicted to it. You can also try local support groups like AA or celebrate recovery. Good luck.
You must be courageous and ask for help in the medical field, but remember that the only one who can help you is yourself, alcohol and drugs are not the ones to turn to when we need help ,talk to friends and family do not waste yourself that way .
if u dont stop i might as well be makeing u a grave right now
young lady, please follow your own idea and check yourself into a treatment or rehab center.while the thought may be scary, once you get in, if you will go into it with an open mind, you will find that there are decent people just like yourself in there and they all desire the same thing you do...to be free of alcohol. Please, put your fears aside and do this.it will be the best thing you could do for yourself. Good luck and God keep you.
Please, please, please do not be discouraged because you can't "just give up the bottle". You were addicted to heroin and now you are addicted to alcohol. Addiction is a very powerful disease.
Find a rehab. and/or a medical detox. in your area. One reason that you continue to drink is because the withdrawal is really hard to do alone and it can be very dangerous. They will medicate and monitor you until you feel better physically. They will also most likely introduce you to the ideas of a 12 step program.
You already have some knowledge of AA. I like the NA program better because it approaches all addictions. There you will meet women who have and are "going through alot of stuff" but we're learning how to do it clean/sober.
If you have any questions, concerns, doubts please e-mail me. I can't do this alone but WE can do this together. Hugs and love to you!
You should get yourself into rehab, even though you dont want to. You say that you want to "give up the bottle" but cant stop yourself from drinking, the ppl at the rehab center will make sure that you dont drink. you were addicted to heroin for a long time, and most addicts find other things to get addicted to after they cure one addicition. You do have a problem, you are to the point that if you dont get alcohol in your system you begin to shake because you are physically addicted to it. It is hard to break an addiction on your own, and there are ppl out there who actually want to help. good luck!
Been there myself with alcohol. I remember having to have a few beers to get rid of the shakes, before i could drive to the beer store. I have also been addicted to meth and did some prison time for it.
So here is the deal. (trust me I know, been there). You can't quit. Addiction is bigger than you are. So don't try to quit. Just work the first step.
We admit that we are powerless over our addiction and our lives have become unmanageable.
Sounds like you might be there right now. So go to number two.
We believe that a power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity.
Do you believe that. It's true. The 12 step saved my life, and and only divine intervention can help you now. Did you really get off herion, or did you just change it to alcohol. If you did thats OK. Because now we have a lesser demon to worry about. You might even have to smoke pot for a while to get control of this demon. If you do thats ok. (pot is not physically addictive as is alcohol and herion.) The point is take baby steps everyday, You did not become an addict over night and you can not overcome it overnight. The 12 steps work, and being around others who have been there can be a great help.
Keep the first step in mind tomorrow, paste in on your TV on your computer, on your bathroom mirror. And this I promise, you will have a spiritual awakening, that most people only dream about. Don't worry about stopping drinking, just think about the first step of AA. And just so you know, life without addiction is better. good luck e mail me if you need to check you local paper for AA or NA meeting in the classified. There are all kinds. secular, church based, gay and lesbian AA groups, motorcycle groups, whatever, just look and you will find a group thats right for you
