Choose not to feel alone. Learn to like yourself. Find a hobby and put all your extra energies into it. Take a class in a topic you're interested in. Keep yourself busy and you won't have time to be depressed.
This always works. Find out what you are passionate about and follow that, keep trying new things. Don't let it conquer you and don't dwell on it. And please don't go to a psychiatrist and take pills.

Sara, you know what have to do; see a mental health specialist. I'm sure deep down you already know this is what you need to do. Get over the excuses for not going and just go.
15 tries on different drugs to make it right and several hospitalizations later, I might have an idea where you are coming from.
First off. If you are suicidal call 1-800-SUICIDE or call 911. It's better to go into a hospital on your own terms than by court order.
Second. Forget the medical bills. No really--forget the medical bills. Finding something that works for you to stay alive and getting close to normal is all you need to worry about--you have be alive to do that, and if you get debt, so be it. I've done a chapter 7 bankruptcy too--not the end of the world, actually.
I don't know your diagnosis--ie Major Depression, Bipolar, etc--almost everyone needs a talk therapist. It keeps you honest, and a bit more sane. Therapists are helping kind of people--if you have insurance great, milk it, if not, plea bargain them down on the rates. It works.
You also need a psych doctor. These guys are more expensive, but they control the 'happy pills' that can alter our biochemstry, so work with your therapist on getting one. If you have one, and he/she isn't working out, SWITCH.
Consider DBT --it's a type of therapy that can help you with coping skillsets that many depressed and anxious people just missed out on developing as they grew up, for whatever reason. ESPECIALLY look into DPT if you are a self-harmer, such as cutting, biting, etc. DPT is pretty much the only thing on the block that actually helps self-harmers learn something else that actually can be BETTER than the selfharming.
Can't think of anything else at the moment. good luck!
Sara, depending on what type or classification of depression you have been diagnosed with there are Many kinds of anti-depressants on the market that can help. Also there are good psychiatrists & psychologists that can help with talk therapy, or, if you attend church, go to a minister or some church group for assistance. If all else fails I've heard of other types of therapies, such as shock therapy---I don't know anything about that but I can tell you that with the right combination of medication and talk therapy.I came out of my depression and off any type of medicine or therapy for about 3 years now.
If you want to talk further email me.
if you are really depressed seek medical help, and please don't do anything to hurt yourself. When I was younger i had a problem with depression, but i learned to depend on me. I do things that makes me happy, you have to look inside yourself to see what is going on with you. Be honest with yourself. I constantly work on myself everyday, i come first. I know it may seem a bit selfless but I come first. My personal happiness means the world to me, i value my happiness more than money and i also watch oprah a lot. A couple of months ago a good friend gave me this dvd, THE SCRECTS it is the best thing that ever happen to me. If you have the chance to get the dvd please get it. YOU will see everthing diffrently your life will change. It is up to you to be happy, know one can make you happy only you. Do things that make you feel good. For instance i do little things for myself like, everyday at 9:30 no matter wants going on or what happen though out the day, i make me a hot bath, with candles and a glass of wine with chesse. This help me to reflect on the day. I also take a vacation three times out of the year i am not rich but this helps me relax and reflect, and in order for me to take so many vacations i don't spend a lot of money on non-sense. What i am try to say is do lots of things that makes you happy. I do a lot of voluteer work because there is always somebody out there that is more worst of than you. What I learn about depression is that it is a state of mind you have to change your way of thinking. At first it's going to be really hard, but if you work on it, it can happen. I never took any medication because I don't like anything to alter me, my personality. But i understand where you are coming from I also almost died on several occations, five to be exact. And was in the hospital twice, but i never took any medication i only changed my way of thinking. But find out what is best for you, and stay safe. You don't want to be depress anymore you don't have to be!
