I use to take them I stopped taking them because I am pregnant. I took lexapro and they didnt help. I stopped taking them and started taking something with a real funny name...I can't think of what it is right now though. They made me feel better, or at least I thought they did. I think it might just be a mind game though sometimes. I went to my regular doctor to get put on them. They usually have a quiz type thing you can take to determine what type and how severe your depression is. This also helps determine what type of medicine to put you on. Best of luck, Jordan.
no
Yes, I've taken them for 10 yrs. Prozac did wonders for me but it's a strong medicine and I gained 10lbs. I now take Zoloft after trying others. My entire family suffers with anxiety and it takes the edge off without the euphoria of benzo's. I could stop taking it if my companions were steady, stable normal people.but ....... NOT!
The ideal is counseling combined with antidepressants for about six months.
Not me.
not anymore yippee
prozac, non adictive, weight loss if anything, no withdrawl symptoms need to be on a few months
No--but perhaps I should be...
think i will be if i stay on here and read daft Q's
It's not advised to just finish them, your dr will tell you how to go about this. I doubt you'd gain weight, you might just do that if you're sitting around the house and not doing anything.
No - but I think I should be
They are not a cure, they are a tool. So when you discontinue them your problem will resurface.
thank God I'm not.
They can cause mood swings, impotence, and weight gain.
My friend can't have children cause she stayed on them too long.
no but sometimes i honestly think i should be!
Mine didnt cause any weight gain or loss, they did help me feel better and i feel okay now im off them!
I was on them for about 6 months, i depends on how severe your depression is and how your body handles the antidepressants
xxxx
no but i know some guy that is and he always goes on major depression when he doesn't have his pills.
I was on largactil for a few years think thats the correct spelling.
It totally sent me loopy and I was sectioned under the mental health act.
I was suicidal and twitchy...all this because I was depressed over a bad childhood.
Now I take nothing and I feel better.
Once you start, it takes about a week to get into your system properly. Antidepressants are a way of life for some people, like myself. They balance out brain chemicals. Going off of them can be very dangerous. Can cause anxiety attacks. I really dont have any side effects.
Yes they are absolute sh1t. They do f*ck all. They make you worse than you were before. When you come off them doctors say - "ah that is because you are still depressed and still need them" when in fact you feel worse simply because of the bad withdrawal effects of the tablets

I'm on Effexor, which unfortunately has terrible withdrawl when I miss a dose. I don't know if it has caused me to gain any weight or if it was another medication I'm on. But it definetly helps with my depression. WebMD.com has good information about antidepressants and such :)
It really depends on which one you are taking and for what reason.
First of all, you should really direct your question to your Doctor as every drug and every patient are different.
You can also look up the side-effects of every drug if you know the name on a web site like WebMD.com.
All anti-depressants require the observation of a trained physician. Generally speaking, coming off the drugs should be done gradually by lowering the dosage.
Side effects include weight gain, loss of sexual interest, mild lethargy.
No i'm not, but i guess i probably should be the way i've been feeling recently.
i was on citalopram
It depends when you are on them to whether you have recieved care to rule out the cause of your depression. if it is psychologically delt with then coming off antidepressents aint too bad.
effect antidepressenta had on me were made me even worse and i tried to overdose on them - they didnt work at all. but i was a young teenager and that is a BAD side effect which has been research that close monitoring should be used. i wasnt monitored.
i didnt gain any weight at al but i wasnt on them for all that long - about 2 weeks
not all of your life. it is a short term method as the body gets immune and levels of dose needs to be increased with time as the effects decrease.
how can you say when it is early to come off antidepressents. you will prob feel really groggy depending on the time you have been taking them for. you doctor or psychiarist will advice you on the right time to come off the pills. only time will tel.

i'm on 10mg citolpram.
they will only make you worse when you come off it you do "cold turkey". come off gradually, don't suddenly stop or you will crash back down, you can be on them for months or years even. depends on how long you need them for.
i didn't gain any weight, just felt a bit sick for the first week or so - it varies with the type and strength
you know I heard today that there was a very effective supplement called melatonin on the market that helped raising the serotonin levels, becuase that's the main physical cause of depression but the pharmecustical companies stopped them due to losing money.
I have seen it on Ebay though, as I think you can still buy it in America.
Hi yes im on anti depressants im on fluoxetine. These have put weight on me as they can give them to people who are anorexia, not all of them are like that thou. I have felt brilliant since I ve been on them. They usually say 6 months and then depending on circumstances etc review your situation. Never come off them on your own you will get a head spin dizzy. You would have to reduce them to a lower dose and then to maybe every other day.Do not do this without proffessional advice thou. Good luck dont worry about being on them lots and lots of people are on them.Just think that it isnt for long.
Yes, I'm on Citalopram 40mgs. If you come off them quickly your original symptoms can come back. I haven't gained any weight with these like I did on others. You can be on a course of anti-depressants for as long as they are needed, I've been on different ones since 2002 and I've been told i could need them long-term. Try this website:

It's the national mental health organisation.
yes when coming off them you will feel bad, go to www.antidepressantfacts.com. I took myself off zoloft, it was a big improvement, i am on welbutrin xl and feel much better than when i was on both. I have been on it for almost 3 years, have no idea what will happen when i stop this one. You do need to wean yourself off slowly, cut the dosage down. i gained 20 lbs on zoloft, i am slowly losing it now.
Never compare yourself to someone else as regards taking medication, even if they have the same symptoms as you. Here's a link that you might find useful.

ive been on and off them for over 15 years. if you come off them too quickly you can go back to square one with the way you are feeling. i tend to loose weight when im on them, as i dont feel like eating half the time. alot of the antidepressants ive tried make me drowsy and feeling sick, plus if im feeling suicidal alot can make your symptoms worse and i then go out and try something!
Hiya, yeah i am on them and have been for over a year. I started to wean off them and felt great taking 1 20mg Fluoxitine tablet every 2nd day then i completely stopped! I wouldnt reccommend this as i am now feeling worse than ever and back on the tablets!
