If you have used or are using therapy as a treatment for depression?
Question:
did you use any homework?
Answers:
Therapy has not worked for a lot of pelople i know (or myself after my parents' deaths). A lot of it has to do with poor strategy by the therapists and an inability to apply what they know in a way that is catered to your individual personality.
Try cognitive behavior therapy.
therapy didn't work for me... believe it or not.. dieting and exercising and visiting a hypnotherapist is what treated my depression.
Therapy did not work for me. It was a waist of time and I hated to go. Only went six times. I take depression medication and I got a book on cognitive behavior therapy at the bookstore and it has also helped.
It helped me whilst i was having it but it didn't help in the long run. I think they got particular strategies and i found them patronising at times and an insult to my intellect. You end up just covering the same ground over and over because they are not quite hearing what fits in with their theories. I have found that informal counselling helps alot better. Weather it'll help in the long run, who knows but all i know is that i have actually found someone outside of the NHS who i don't feel patronised or belittled by.
well im having cognitive therapy at the moment coz i have alot of suicidal thoughts and always unhappy, well it changes the way i think if i have a suicidal thought ive learnt its only a thought so have to recognise it and not ignore it as it will come bk but if its recognised just think yep its bk again now change it for a nicer thought, ive only had 2 sessions and im feeling a bit better already, so i recommend it to anyone suffering from depression
best of luck
I am currently in therapy for depression, anxiety disorders incl PTSD. This is the second attempt and at last I'm seeing and feeling some results. The psychologist can not solve your problems all they can do is to suggest ways of dealing with them and looking at them in a different manner. No one has a magic wand no one would love one more than me. Progress is slow but sure if you're honest, open and able to take in and think about the advice given. You have to be in the right frame of mind for this. Perhaps you should give it another try, use another doctor and therapist, as in all professions some are good others are not. Good luck.
