Fear of haircuts?

Question:
Well, not a fear, but i suffer from low self esteem and depressin. i just feel like unhappy about getting a haircut, because of this low self esteem. i need one, and want one, but theres the block of getting it done. its like 1) what if it isnt better than now, and 2) sitting in the chair looking at yourself for like 15 minutes while they do something to your hair. remember, low self esteem. yeah. any advice?

Answers:
I know exactly how you feel, I used to be the same.

I suggest you find a hairdressers that is busy that way you wont be sitting for ages getting it done, and the hair dresser will have more getting on with it instead of chatting! Why dont you take a friend or parent with you, then your not sitting by yourself waiting. Another thing I found really good was to take a magazine in with you and have a flick through it while your hair is getting cut, or mess about with your phone send a few texts, there wont be any need to look in the mirrror.

Once you go to the same hairdressers a few times, it will get much easier and you wont even think about it! plus... once its done you will feel so much better about yourself!

so good luck!
ask to turn the chair around...now theres a thought...or have a chat with the person next to you or the barber himself
You could stop being so wet.
Tell the hairdresser you don't have to sit looking at the mirror why not have it done at home in comfort might make you feel better, remember hair also grows
Go to a good hairdresser and ask to look away from the mirror when they are cutting your hair. I used to be a hairdresser and I got many a request not to look into the mirror whilst the client had their hair cut.
do you any good friends who are good hairdressers or a good friend who could go with you to tell you it looks great after. It might help being around someone you trust at the time.
Just tell the stylist you always feel like a dork while getting your hair cut, could she turn the chair to the side so you don't have to look at yourself in the mirror. I'm sure she's run into it before.

I hate getting haircuts myself and put it off as long as possible, but for different reasons. Good luck!
Ask the stylist to turn you away from the mirror. Ask the stylist to do what she/he thinks will look good. They know what goes with your face shape. For example tell them that you want a new style but you only want to cut off this much, or you like such and such do but you aren't sure if it would look good on you. Tell her to be honest.Don't be so down on yourself. We all look different and it's more uncommon than you think for people to have low-self esteem. We are all beautiful people. If we all looked the same this world would be a boring place. I used to struggle with low self esteem aolt. I still do sometimes, but it's gotten better. I know that I have a caring heart. i know that I am beautiful on the inside. Besides God didn't make ugly people. We are all beautiful to him, we just have to learn to be beautiful to ourselves. We are our biggest critics.
oh dear fifteen mins. what an awfully long time to feel uncomfortable for. you don't have to look at yourself you know just look down/around/anywhere but your face.
alternatives: cutting your own hair or growing it long
If you can, try cutting your own hair (much easier than it sounds); no looking at yourself in a mirror for 15 minutes, you can cut your hair exactly the way you want it, and you save money on haircuts. If this seems a little daunting, practice first by putting on a wig and cutting that to get a feel for what it's like. If you'd rather not go that route, see if a family member or someone you know can cut your hair for you. If you have a fairly short haircut and wish to maintain it, there are clippers that work in a similar way to electric razors that can be used to do that. (You don't necessarily have to have a buzz cut to use these, either; back when my hair used to be about an inch or two long, that's what the hairstylist used.)
become a hippy
get your friends to recommend a good hairdresser .. at least you know how it'll turn out.
I had a bad hair cut once and now I'm wanting to get my hair cut but i can make myself.
