What do you do when you are depressed?

I have had the black cloud of depression hang over me many times. I think of something I have to be thankful for. I try and remember that there are many people far worse off than myself. I think of something beautiful. I think of someone I have been kind to and someone who has been kind to me. I think of someone who needs me (and someone will at some point even if I don't know them yet.) I try to force myself to get dressed and go outside. Action leaves less time for thinking. I remind myself that sometimes you have to fake a smile till the real ones come. I remind myself that nothing lasts forever and this too shall pass. It really will.
Go online.
Think about why I'm depressed. Isolate myself from the world. Wish I had what I lost. Go on YouQA.com s and try to make people's days better than mine ever will be. Cry.
create a horriblely sad playlist on my itunes, put it on my ipod, and fall asleep listening to it
Seek treatment, don't stay by yourself.
ZOLOFT!
i eat lots of chocolate and listen to music and talk to my friends other then crying
See a dr for medication to help. Get around people that make you happy. Do things to take your mind off of whatever has you down.
I go work out at the gym.
Working out saved my life. I'm not a big muscel guy, but physical activity saved my life.
try to find out how to feel one notch better. play guitar sing scream pound rant rave write type movies...
read: hello, cruel world.
I listen to music. To me, music is much better than any anti-depressant pill.
As corny as this sounds, I have my list of "pick me up" songs on my mp3 player.
Like - do you ever have a soundtrack for the songs that were around during some of the happiest moments of your life? Yeah, those are the ones you should play back to yourself when you're really down. Because they give you hope, and keep you going.
Oh - oh ... and I watch a good movie -- pick-me-up movies that pertain to whatever situation in my life..
like for instance, when I was breaking up with a boyfriend, I rented "Sliding Doors" with some friends, and became very optimistic about things...
it's strange how certain things can make you feel so much more optimistic ... also a nice journal, and a bubble bath helps... write it all down girl
when im depressed i complain alot and i usually watch my favorite movie a walk to remember with mandy more and shane west it makes me cry every time and i feel better because i know at the moment life could be much worse
ice cream always helps too
If it a slow moving train it creeps up on me and drains me for a few days, leading up to 3-6 days of practically incapable of doing anything. I sleep, A LOT, I cry, I barely can get out of bed. I can't do anything or basically function.
But then again, I'm Bipolar 2 (bipolar depression basically)
I watch comedy movies or funny home videos.
i go to the bathroom and cry my heart out...i dint like to cry in front of my babies, because they feel everything that i feel, that's why i just go to the bathroom and cry..but that's my opinion..
Do my daily routine with no thought of the depression
personally? i go on youtube an watch some videos.
what should you do? if it is only for a bit, do something that will ceer you up, but if it has been for a while, talk to someone and tell them about what is going on. good luck. feel better.
Depends on how depressed we are talking about and for how long. If it's a minor depression that isn't all that bad I find something that will make me happy, get togther with a friend, go shopping, buy myself flowers, take myself out for a good meal, when I was single, called up someone I was dating and made a date.
Ok, if it's serious and on going, it's time to see a shrink. Start out with the talking phase and try to get to the root of the problem. I don't suggest that you go on drugs immediately like so many people do. Try and work it out yourself at first. If this doesn't work, then if your doctor suggests you can try one of the SSI drugs (prozac, paxil, zolof, etc), but try to work it out first, drugs are not always the answer.
just sit alone for sometime and make myself get settled and then get back to work. but bit slowly..
I realize that I can't be high energy and optimistic all the time. Knowing that I'll have down days helps me to let myself pass through them. Sometimes, circumstances put a twist in my contentment. Sometimes, I'm the cause of my distraction. Taking it all on balance, I'd say that I don't exactly do anything but keep on keepin' on.
Honestly, if I feel depressed; I will Meditate, Exercise, do Yoga and not focus on being depressed. The idea is, Depression is a "State of Mind". One can choose to be Depressed or to be Happy. Sure, sometimes life can seem overwhelming; everyone has some sorrow or unfortunate events occur in their life.
Just remember, there's always a rainbow on the other side; we don't know why life gives us issues or obstacles on our path. Sometimes the issues or obstacles are ways for us to learn and overcome our weaknesses or emotions; if not that, it is a test that you will pass eventually.
Good Luck -- Meditation Really Works, if you like Yoga; it could open a whole new world to you, (physically, mentally, and spiritually).
The next time you see the "SUN" smile and remember it's smiling back at you. :) Stay Happy -- You'll Feel Better.
Sleep a lot, drink a lot, do bad at work drink a lot (well i drink a lot when I'm happy too) . How do I help? Work out, search online and chat, sunbath when the weather is good, talk to a good friend
i take a shower seclude myself reflect on the peolple around me to see if i am depressed or if its in my head
I do a number of things to make me feel better. I write in my journal about what might be making me feel sad. When I need to cry, I go to the bathroom and do that. I also listen to music or play video games. Video games really takes my mind off my stress haha.
this is the cure to depression
1. Cry. Cry until you can not cry anymore.( watch a sad movie if it helps get it out of your system) It sounds bad, but trust me you will feel better
2. re-do your your make-up ( it just makes you feel prettier and therefore happier)
3. Watch your favorite (funny) movie or TV show (Will and Grace for me)
4. If the sun is out go out with it. If it is night go out for a drive with the windows down.
5. Or.put on some music and Dance like there is no tomorrow (or do both)
6. Call a friend or your mom or however knows you best
7. If that doesnt work take a bath and eat chocolate.but only as a last resort because eating can make your feel more depressed ( depending on the reasons of your deperession
8. Go out with friends and talk about it the people that love you always make you feel better
This method has worked for me for years!! 3,4, and 5 are my personal favorites. I hope it helps, I really do!!
Keep a daily feelings journal,(make it simple), jotting down each time you feel depressed throughout the day, along with what 'triggered" your depressed feeling, if you know. Check for any patterns of you depression, such as a specific time of day, situation, person, etc. Then you will know more of the cause of your depression and better know how to work through it. If your depression continues or worsens, talk to a trusted adult, school counselor, family Dr., or professional therapist. Be sure and bring your "feelings journal" so you will be able to tell them how long you have been feeling depressed, if it's getting better or worse, more or less frequent/intense, etc. You don't have to go it alone. Ask for help. Once you have identified the problem, then you can explore all possible resolutions &/or effective coping skills that will help you better work through these difficult feelings and start on your way to better days and happier feelings.
