Remember the prayer, "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep and if I die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take"
Well, on a deep subconscious level, that is a horrid thing for people to learn when young, as, if there is something going on in their lives, an illness, or anything that may seem threatening to ones well-being, going to sleep could get correlated with not waking up. If this has lasted awhile for you and it isn't because you aren't tired, (you wrote you are "resisting going to sleep"), you may want to consider that you are associating sleep with the fear of death/dying.
This is very bad, don't break the natural sleep cycle.
well, you should be thinking about something that just makes your mind busy and awake all the time.
you sound like a kid but that doesnt really matter. you should make sure that you have done everything possible to have a healthy life. pay bills and work hard clean house. if you do all that then you will sleep like a baby.
maybe there has been something on your mind? that happens to me sometimes, even when im not thinking that there is something on my mind. or else it could be because u are stressing on something. some also say it could be from what u eat the night before. hope u find a way to sleep :)
If there is not some kind of stress or something going on in your life or perhaps if you are not consciously aware of anything then it could be in your sub conscious and if it continues I would definitely recommend going and talking with a Psychologist or therapist to get to the reason of what is going on. I hope you are able to get some sleep soon as I know this can start effecting your everyday life. You may want to call your Dr. and see if s/he recommends a mild prescription sleep aid such as Lunesta just for a short period of time so it does not start interfering with other aspects of your life. Good luck ~
I have anxiety issues and OCD so I have the same battle with trying to sleep. Here's what helps me (without a bunch of meds !):
*decide on a schedule for yourself on when you will go to bed and when you will wake up, try to keep it the same everyday so that your body learns the routine.
*take a warm bath or a hot shower, whatever relaxes you before you go to bed.
*put a radio or tv on a channel with soft classical music to help you relax.
*just before you go to bed make a walk through your house and make sure the windows and doors are locked and the oven is off, if you have chores that you just don't feel like dealing with, make yourself a to do list and leave it on the kitchen counter. Usually this relieves your brain from worrying about forgetting to do something and causing you not to beable to sleep.
*make sure your house is cool and your bedroom is nice and dark (blackout curtains work great).
If you really try this method and still have trouble sleeping, then you should see your doctor and make sure there is not a medical condition causing you not to be able to fall asleep.
Good luck !
divert your thoughts it might be difficult initially but can relive you. try yoga exercise.
it could be anxiety or stress, but since you afraid it likely from anxiety. (still uncertain)
the only matter is how you treat it, i suggest don't use sleeping pills, here some good resource for you
