Is cutting lifestyle choice or a desease? and is it a coping meconism? or an attention getter?
Question:
Answers:
I was diagnosed with Depression almost 7 years ago, I only started self harming "cutting" myself 2 years ago. I DO NOT do it to get attention because no one knows that I do it and when I do I will hide my cuts by wearing a wrist band, I usually cut myself when I am feeling suicidal, so personally for me, it is a coping mechanism, cutting myself keeps me from killing myself.

Self Harm can be a lifestyle choice, a result of a mental illness, a coping mechanism or a cry for help, but it is not the same for every individual, because each person will have a different reason for doing it...
It's a disease. It's a cry for help. Not a healthy way to deal with your problems.
It's part of the OCD diseace. Obsessive Compulsive habit. They for a uncontrollable habbit in cutting. it's very sad!
I'm pretty sure it isn't a lifestyle choice. As for the rest, it could be any of the above or none of the above or all of the above.
Seeking attention may well be a coping mechanism. It would distract you from whatever was really bothering you.
It can be both. You can do it for attention and you can become dependent on it to make you feel better. Either way is not healthy.
sometimes a disease, sometimes an attention getter. cutting seems to be pretty hip these days.
Usually it is a disease and a coping mechanism. But - there are those who use it to get attention. Sadly at times those who start doing it for attention actually find themselves addditcted to it. The cutting causes the brain to produce a "feel good" chemical and people who are playing with it find themselves in actual trouble.
It is a decease and a coping meconism its how some people deal and it was changed and made fun of there 4 no one really now if its a attention getter or some *** trying to be emo or a real problem
Both. It's just unhealthy.
All of the above! It is a mental disease and a life style choice. We all make choices every single day. It is a coping mechanism and it is an attention ploy as a cry for help. It is a habit. It is obcessive compulsive behavior. If you or a friend does this get help. Go to a doctor. It is too difficult to handle by yourself.
its not a lifestyle choice its just a mostly unhealthy way to cope and realiese pain u would really only understand if u have ever done it.. i guess i no ppl who used to.
It is not a disease. That is f**ked up. I do it mainly as a coping mechanism yet some people do do it for attention.
It is an negative coping method. Yes, it is a choice. It could be a disease, if you have anxiety or depression or something.. People cut to so called "relieve emotional pain" so they can focus on the physical, burning pain..
