Answers:
You love each other and he gives you comfort and relieves stress. I like to sleep with my pets too and I have had anxiety attacks for a long time. There have been a lot of studies proving that having pets around lowers stress levels in people.
It's really good that you have someone that helps you feel better. Dogs can be VERY therapeutic. It's great.
I hope you are also getting help from a doctor.
Maybe it's because some things that we like literally release hormones the make us happy, and those hormones also reduce stress, so if you like your dog (lol) then you probably feel relieved. It's harder to get to sleep when you're stressed, so it's probably eaiser to sleep with your dogs because you're more comfortable around him.
When I was experiencing severe depression my dog use to hang around me. He would follow me from room to room and always lay beside me while I was sleeping. This brought alot of comfort. I believe God brought this dog into my life because of His love and compassion. We found him at the pound (St. Bernard). Animals just have a sense that makes them want to comfort and protect. I love my dog..
its probably that you feel more safe by ur dog
It's either because you crave the companionship (and most humans do) or the dogs rythmic sleep breathing makes you more likely to sleep just by hearing it. It also might be that you feel some protection even from a 10 pound dog that allows you to sleep with no anxiety.
Your dog, in a way, has become a security blanket. Which is perfectly normal for someone with anxiety. I too suffer from it and find when it starts to act up, I will pick up my Guinea pig. I started doing this without even thinking. But, it keeps me calm and focused on what I'm doing instead of the anxiety.
Everyone with anxieties handle them differently, which than leads you to "cure" the feelings differently. Luckily you found one of the less destructive comforts. If you aren't happy with the answers here, go visit a doctor. They will be able to explain the relationship between you anxiety and your ease with your dog around.
Could be a few reasons, or combination of reasons:
1. You feel secure, and loved when your min-pinn is there
(you are not alone.I have panic disorder -a severe form of anxiety- and when panic attacks hit me when I was first diagosed, they were worse when I was alone. )
2. Studies have been done to show that animals (especially pets) have a relaxing, calming effect on most people.
A study (can't remember which groupconducted it) showed that when petting an animal, people's blood pressure decreases measureably.
3. When your dog is with you in bed, you probably think a little about him...how cute he is? whether he's being still or fell asleep? So your brain is occupied. You are not thinking about yourself or any anxiety, you are thinking about your min-pinn.

- My humble opinion - Pure love with no strings. When you focus on giving love, the simple act of petting an animal and seeing a positive reaction, you stop focusing on your problems. Even just the awareness that they are laying on the floor next to the bed shifts mental focus to a strong bond of affection and can bring some peace. They love you almost without condition (All you have to do is feed and pet them), an island of security in an insecure world.
