Eating disorder and now alcoholism?

Question:
I realize that it is possible to become codependent and I have. I have been inpatient several times. I'm in my 30's and haven't figured out a way to stop. I know it takes willpower but I just don't know anymore. I don't have insurance so I can't afford rehab/counselors/meds right now. In the last 4 years I've started drinking heavily. A lot of stress in my marriage, lots of deaths in the family, not being able to get work...it's really taken a toll on me and I know bulimia and drinking aren't helping. Can anyone give me advice? Please don't be cruel, this has been 17 years with the bulimia and 4 with the drinking. I feel so sad and like such a failure....help me learn to help myself...thank you

Answers:
Even if you don't have insurance, there is still help available. First, I want you to call the alcohol hotline. I've included the number below. They may be able to refer you to some free or low-cost services or the local A.A. chapter.

Alcohol and Drug Helpline - Provides referrals to local facilities where adolescents and adults can seek help. Brief intervention.
1-800-821-4357

I also want you to contact the bulimia hotline. You have two different problems, and you need to address both of them.

Bulimia and Self-Help Hotline
24 hours crisis line
314-588-1683

You are NOT a failure. You can overcome these things. Many people have done it, and you can too. But you do need to get the proper help. Ask for advice on free/low-cost services. There is help out there. I wish you the best of luck. You can beat this.
Try reading this book and completing the exercises when instructed to. I found a copy at the local library. In this situation doing homework is just as important.
