I have Bipolar and been on medicine since i was fourteen, i been on like ten different medications to treat bipolar and had experience bad side effects with all of them i want to stop taking my medicine but dont know how to go about it

Answers:
Ultimately it's your choice. Usually it's better to consult your doctor but usually the one that prescribed it will not change their mind, so you may have to see another doctor. You could try a naturopathic doctor. If you do this on your own, you should taper off the meds slowly to avoid withdrawal effects. You should also cut out all your junk foods and eat fresh produce and drink purified water [from purified water machines] instead of tap water. But if you can afford it, see a naturopathic doctor.
Go talk to your doctor. Why are you asking us? Your doctor will know best.

Whatever you do, don't be an idiot and stop taking all of your meds at once. WHY people still do this is beyond me, because it's about THE stupidest things to do ever when you're on psych drugs. You'll go nuts and try to kill yourself.

PLEASE see your doctor.
You have to talk to your psychiatrist. He or she will help wean you off, if it's appropriate.
I suggest talking to your doctor about discontinuing the medication because a lot of meds used to treat bipolar disorder need to be slowly tapered.
I agree with the first poster...
Don't stop taking them at once without consulting your doctor.
I think that if you talk to him/her and ask to change your prescription. Talk about the side effect and tell him that you want to stop and explain the situation as you are explaining it to us.
Even if you get the answer from a Doctor in here it won't be good enough... always talk to the doctor that perscribes your meds...
I hope this helps... and I hope you feel better :-)
Take care
Hey! I feel your pain.I am Bipolar and have been on meds for over 10 years. It sucks!

But worse is getting my *** arrested and thrown into jail because I am manic or lying in bed wishing I would die because I am depressed.

You choose- taking your meds or the above scenarios.
Talk to your doctor or psychiatrist!! Do not attempt to come off any medicine without the advice and support of your doctor. If you have shown enough improvement your doctor may wean you off slowly then you will need to show them that you can remain stable without the medicine. I don't know about coming off with Bipolar because I've not experienced that...but I know that with major depression/dysthmic disorder..it is possible because I did it for a period of about 2 or 3 years.
