How do you know when you need to be hospitalized for depression?
Question:
How do I do this?!
Answers:
It's time to be hospitalized for depression when you are feeling hopeless and you are in mental pain. You are probably on the wrong medication, or not at a high enough dose. I suffered from major depression and it took me about 10 years of experimenting with various prescription medications before I finally found the right ones. Now I take Wellbutrin and Zoloft and I have no symptoms of the illness for over 4 years.
Change doctors or medication. Go into the hospital for treatment. Keep trying until you overcome this illness. Don't give up. Good Luck!
For most people, I don't think they do know when it's time to seek that level of help. When you get THAT low, you're not that rational. I've gone plenty of LONG periods of not wanting to be alive, even some shorter periods of thinking out detailed ways to commit suicide, even some self harm, and I've always come out the other side just fine.
Sounds like you're a lifer huh? My doctors suggested I just stay on the medication permanently, and it does work pretty well, it's certainly helped me, but I can't stay on that stuff constantly. All you can do in the end is put one foot in front of the other and remember that life doesn't always suck.
My boyfriend was depressed. He never tried to kill himself or anything but he would lock himself in his room and sometimes not call me for days at a time. it drove me crazy, I took it all personal and thought he was just avoiding me until I finally realized that it wa sserious. He wasnt just "sad." he had a health problem. Im assuming youre on medication and have seen conslers? if not, you need to do that first. it could make you feel almost 100% better. If you have done that then I dont really think you need to be hospitalized, being locked up somehwere tht you do not want to be will make it worse. By what ive learned from my boyfriend, I will never understand whats its like to be clinically depressed. Write a list of the people who love you and the things you do have. Remember God loves you no matter what and that you have a house, and food, and freedom. Try to force yourself to go out. I think that will help. you might not want to get up, get dressedm do those things, but once you do them you'll feel vetter for the time being. And if youre on medication and still this depressed...trying switching medication.
What do you mean by trying to get help? Have you sought the services of a doctor who specializes in depression? Have you ever been diagnosed with depression and/or taken medication for it?
As you may well know, depression is just as physiological as it is psychological and medical care can help you.
You need to seek professional help now if you don't want to be alive.
Best of luck to you.
Don't give up! I know that it is challenging to live with depression, but there is so much help available such as antidepressant drugs, therapy, etch.
Have you tried talking to your doctor and being truly direct with him/her about how you have been feeling? If you have and have not received acceptable treatment, you need to try someone else, preferably a professional.
I suffer with depression and sometimes I get so low that I think I am completely worthless, but it is not true. I know I am unique because God made me unique as He did you. But even if you don't believe in God, believe in yourself or turn to someone who believes in you and get help. Trust yourself, if you feel like you need to be hospitalized for a while, then you probably do. I wish you the best.
