Question About Risperdal .25mg?
Question:
anyway, my questions are,
1. How long could it take to see bigger and more changes?(estimated weeks, moths, etc)
2. since i take my dose at night before bed, the effects wear off early morning/noon of the next day, will that effect increase to all day till the next dosage intake that night, over time with continuation of the dosage?
Answers:
As you take the risperdal you should notice that your thinking will be more organized and that you will be less worried. If you hear voices they should get quieter. Your doctor will continue to have you take it at bedtime..that's the way everyone takes it. It's designed to last throughout the day so I don't think you need to worry about the effects wearing off during the day. It will establish a constant blood level.
If you think it's helping but are hoping it will help more, review how things are going with your doctor. You are on a relatively low dose so if your doctor thinks it's appropriate the dose could be increased for improved symptom control. Unlike antidepressants, it does not take 6-8 weeks to know the effect of your current dose; you've been on it long enough to know it's effect. The antipsychotics tend to reach maximum effect much sooner than antidepressants.
Good luck!
What symptoms are you talking about? If you mean sedation, it's possible it will fade a little more. If it's psychosis or mania, no, you probably are getting all the mileage that you'll get out of that dose. That's a very low dose, btw.
It can take 6-8 weeks for a psychiatric medication to become full functional. Increasing the dose should increase the effectiveness overall, so it won't wear off so early.
After about 2 months of taking the drug, you should begin to feel all the changes that there's going to be. It takes that long to get into your system and really work. The effect should increase to all day in that 2 months. Perhaps that's too low of a dose though. If you need more improvement, your doctor may increase your dosage. It depends on how well you communicate with your doctor. He only knows what you tell him about your progress, so be sure to keep him informed. Good Luck!
