In some states (North and South Dakota, Washington, New Jersey, Nevada, and Oklahoma), attempting suicide is still considered a crime. So you really aren't allowed, it is illegal. :P

Because wanting to kill yourself is a mental problem, not because of the situation. A lot of people go through things, yet they don't want to kill themselves. A lot of the times, when a person tries hard enough, they can get better and enjoy their lives... but sometimes their so crowded with despair that they don't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Also I think religion plays a big part as to why the government doesn't condone su!cide. Of course I believe in assisted su!cide for people with terminal illnesses... but as far as su!cide for the regular human being, it's something that should be dealt with in a mental health facility and not by jumping off a bridge. And theres nothing wrong with a person that wants to disappear... you can just move to a different state or country... it's the idea that killing yourself is the only way to disappear, thats the problem.

Suicide is wrong. You shouldn't take your own life before your time. You know that too.
I don't believe there are any laws against suicide. At least I've never heard of anyone being punished for attempting suicide and not succeeding. Have you?
It -is- against the law for someone to help someone commit suicide, or euthanasia.
You are right a person has the freedom to kill themselves any time they please. The thing is, life is constant change, and one minute you are down and want to die and the next, the most beautiful things can happen .Why deny yourself the chance to grow and experience the lovely parts of life?
Often people want to kill themselves from the depth of depression and have an altered perception of life. In most of these cases after treatment these people are glad that they didn't manage to kill themselves. I know I wantd to die one week and was frightened the next that I could work myself up that much.
In cases where there is no treatment and the person is going to continue to suffer moer and more then I agree with euthanasia (have had 2 pets put down this wa, and hope to go down this root if I am in this situation at all in the future).

Your "allowed" to kill yourself.No ones stopping you. What is your definition of "dissappearing"? You can leave anytime, physically or mentally. But before you do either, think about the aftermath.

Any living thing will fight for survival..you know, like - survival of the fittest........ If someone really desires to off themselves, they are flawed. Have you ever seen a suicidal dog? Do birds purposely fly into that big picture window to die, or are they fighting off intruders to protect their territory so that they can SURVIVE?..As far as the law goes, do what you want. As a living, breathing, human being, you should WANT to live.
