Effexor Withdrawals?
Question:
I was prescribed Effexor XR & took it faithfully for approximately 8 years. When I approached my new doctor about help to lose weight, she recommended switching to a different antidepressant, stating that Effexor makes it REALLY difficult for some to lose weight--I'd gained about 75 pounds since I started taking it.
The withdrawals were almost unbearable--electric shock sensations in the brain, severe mood swings, nausea, cold sweats, trembling--I had it all. When I told my dr. I couldn't handle it anymore, she prescribed Hydroxyz HCL and told me to take it anytime I started to feel withdrawals from the Effexor. I WAS OFF THE EFFEXOR IN LESS THAN A WEEK. The Hydroxyz took away all of the withdrawal symptoms. I researched Hydroxyz & it is used for anxiety, insomnia, itching & alcohol withdrawal. One suggestion, I took 2 the first time & it FLOORED me. I couldn't get out of bed for a day. If you have any questions, ask! Best Wishes! :D

samething with lexapro and zoloft
yeah. I had electric shocks in my brain too. I thought i was losing it. Thanks for the info.
I think it's awesome you were able to do that but I really hope you weaned yourself SLOWLY off the Effexor! I went off Paxil all at once and it was the worst ride of my life. I was a seeing a nurse practitioner and she should have told me to gradually wean myself from it. I could have caused myself some serious medical damage by stopping cold! NO psychotropic drugs should be stopped cold like that. And, the Paxil caused me to gain a lot weight.
