Answers:
My 8 yr old has this. I would strongly suggest you read the info on the Childhood Adolescent Bipolar Foundation (CABF) website at http://www.bipolarkids.org .

You will find a wealth of info and advice there there!

Your son needs an IEP and not just a 504. Write a letter requesting a child study team meeting and start the process. You can get services and evaluations and accommodations for him. I know how hard and devastating this is and I cannot imagine that your son will be able to be successful in school without a plan that defines and supports his needs.

There are books out there too that provide model IEP for these kids. There are websites that also provide special education guidance (Wrightslaw, ldonline) and yahoo groups.

You have a tough road, but you also have info and support on the www.

Best wishes.
