Talk to a lawyer and find out what papers you have to file to get a judge to order that he be commited. You have to do that in the states as well. A friend of mine ex boyfriend went absolutely insane. He was running around naked on the streets somewhere yelling and screaming. He called her on his cell phone and told her that he was going to kill himself. He was arrested for public indecency. He got out on a personal recognisance bond. It wasnt until after his mom had gone to the courts that he was admitted against his will into a mental facility for treatment. I hope you can get the help and the answers that you need. I cant imagine the hurt and fear that you are experiencing right now. My heart goes out to you.
Your son sounds alot like me. He's hurting and in terrible pain, so much so that he'd rather die than deal with it anymore. He feels he has no one to talk to about how he feels, maybe even that if he did, he still couldn't express the pain he feels. You're all he has. I hate to put that burden on you, but that's the truth. I'd be dead without my mom. I just got out of the psych ward last month (again). The problem is he needs to see he needs help. That's the difference between me and him. I knew from the beginning that I needed help. You need to get him to see that he doesn't have to suffer as much as he does now, because he is definitely suffering. His cutting and everything is a cry for help, among other things. The drinking is to numb the pain. It's all about pain, how to numb it, get away from it, ignore it, etc.
I don't see how he can't be involuntarily admitted though. I was here back in 2003. But I don't know the laws in Canada. Maybe you could find out. If he's a danger to himself or someone else, they can admit him against his will. At least here.
I have been in A and E twice over the past 2 months with overdoses (not intended to kill me but large non the less). They have released me hours later, even called me mentally incompetent on the last one.
If you are convinced that he is real danger to himself try talking to your doctor about how you could get him commited. I f helps you at all my family stopped me from taking another overdose within days of my most recent as I was worried of scaring and upsetting them. Today I am better as I was yesterday and didn't think about doing anything silly. Good luck.
