Psychotherapy: Your experiences?

Question:
I'm with a great psychotherapist that really understands me. I am 27 and have had anxiety problems my whole life. Because of this, I'm quite messed up inside and have all kinds of irrational fears. My therapist assures me that things will get better. I am really committed to transforming my life: When I feel better, I am quite positive about it; when I'm depressed it seems impossible. Please share your experiences and whether it is possible to change your life.

Answers:
I, too, struggle with symptoms of low-level depression (dysthymia), and have undergone therapy for a number of years (as well as low dosages of SSRI medication). In my experience, it's unlikely you'll ever be "cured." But I do agree with your therapist--given your commitment to improvement, your likely to "get better." That's where I am--"things are better." But I think it's an ongoing process. Good luck, and stay with it! :-)
I was expiriencing mental withdrawl symptoms of Percocet, and I underwent psychotherapy since I was depressed and suicidal from the withdrawl. You don't nescesarily "Get Cured" by visiting a psychotherapist, instead, they give you tools and they help you uncover what is causing anxiety/fear/depression in ones life so that they can make adequate changes to move on in life. I discovered that the roots and fears of my depression and suicidal thoughts was from taking the Percocet pills.
