Often i see that someone has asked a question on Y/A & i see that people tend to pick up on spelling mistakes?
Question:
Answers:
Yeah, that's one of my pet peeves as well.
I think it's easy to spot spelling/grammar mistakes, so people tend to fret over them. Perhaps it makes them feel superior.
Many intelligent people I know rarely if ever correct someone else's spelling/grammar mistakes unless specifically requested so. It's mostly average people who give out unsolicited spelling lessons.
being dyslexic and not being able to spell are 2 totally different issues.
one is a recognized medical condition and the other is a result of not paying attention in school.
it's because of text messages and chat! everyone has a shortcut for everything.
People do that deflect their uncomfortableness with the question and/or their lack of an intelligent and appropiate answer. They are in denial of the fact that people who are lousy spellers or who dont have the time to use spell check are far more intelligent, prettier and better human beings than the people who only know how to spell. :)
I think some people think they are so much better than others that they need to be rude and point out people's mistakes. I personally was given a child that can't spell and it is not because they don't pay attention in school-it is because they are not perfect. And being not perfect is really a pretty normal thing. We're just not perfect in different ways.
Not knowing you, I would not correct your grammar and/ or spelling. I am, however, one of those loathsome people. Or so my friends have told me. After much therapy I have learned that it 's a defense mechanism used to overcome being (un)seen, a forgotten middle child. As well as a tool to try and be noticed for something, anything.
Sorry.
P.S. I correct my own journal in red ink...
People tear apart my questions. For example, I asked about if certain vegetables are healthier than others and what about bananas (I read they are high in fat). All people could be bothered to reply was "Bananas ARENT vegetables" over and over again, like I was some sort of idiot. Even after I added that I was aware of this, that response came.
It's usually when they don't know the answer - but still want to look clever.
