Has anyone ever been involuntarily committed?
Question:
Answers:
I've never been involuntarily committed but as a therapist have had to do many.
Taraoffs vs. California rule that one by law must break confidentiality if someone is a danger to self, another or harm is being done to that person (if a minor).
Sadly, since you had two plans and intent for suicide the worker at the hotline was just obeying the law. A therapist or any other professional would have had to do the same.
I think that hotlines are a great resource and you can let the people on the line know that you are just "getting some things off your chest" and that you "need a third party to work something out".
However, if you do feel truly suicidal and are a REAL risk you may end up back in the hospital.
You may want to look for a therapist. I know that having a therapist over a period of time, the therapist can know you well enough to know when your serious and when your really a risk. I do the same with my Clients on a daily basis. Good luck to you and bravo for reaching out.
You can email me.
Try a close friend. I told my father once that I was going to kill myself and he called 911 on me to. They were going to commit me too but I signed the paper so that I voluntarily went in myself. I didn't have to go to court that way. Try talking to a close friend next time and avoid a hotline I guess.
Yes was admitted for two and half years due to an undiagnosed thyroid disorder. Remember the samaritans - they can really help. Also it may help to go and see a GP and then to ask for referal to a councilor that you can approach them independently. Certainly if you EVER feel like that again talk to someone - anyone - a teacher, a priest, a councilor , a best frienn - tell them how you feel - don't be afraid - we all need people sometimes and life is just truly amazing and really worth fighting for.
I think when you are talking suicide the police are always going to be on the scene soon. You can go into the mental health section of your hospital and make an out patient appointment. County hospitals should have that facility if you don't have insurance and you can pay on a sliding scale. I've had two relatives through marriage already do that, both of them had children and they were scarred for life. Something like that brings horrible trauma to the family. I hope you aren't taking any drugs, as that can bring those feelings on. Sounds like you are suffering from depression. Get some exercise and fresh air, and get counseling. Hope everything works out, we love you.
Yes.
Yup, when I was manic and would not listen to the police. I was not in any shape to commit myself, so they committed me. I needed to be hospitalized to get stabilized.
It sounds as if you were serious about harming yourself. Anytime that happens, they will take you away to the hospital.
