I have gained 20 lbs on lexapro in the last year if i switch to wellbutrin will i lose the weight?

Question:
has anyone gained weight on lexapro and managed to lose it while staying on it? I feel so much better than before, i just hate being a size 10!!

Hey Girl!

I was in the same boat. I absolutely loved the effects on my mood of Lexapro. However, it was not so good for my wardrobe. I too put on a good amount of weight and no matter what I did, excersise tons, eat like a bird ect still the weight would not come off.
I did not try wellbutrin as it is more stimulating and I had issues with anxiety. Wellbutrin is more likely to make you loose weight then gain. However, if you want a similar drug to Lexapro you may want to try Prozac, it is supposed to be the most weight neutral of the SSRIs.
Good luck, hope you get out of the 10s soon!
totally depends on your body.
Me too I'd love to talk.
You should really ask your doctor about this, he'd know better than anyone, but personally I took wellbutrin for a year after my father died, and it really helps you alot and I stayed the same size, actually I gained weight after I got off the pill lol Now I'm 122 so I'm not too upset...good luck
I have read that Cymbalta, a newer antidepressant, also does not have weight-gain as a major side effect. As far as I know there is no generic version of Cymbalta either. So if you want to try something other than Wellbutrin (b/c it may heighten anxiety just like one of the people who answered your question said) look into Cymbalta. Otherwise, this will take a while, but if you don't already please do some form of exercise every day. Also, a good book to read is "The Chemistry of Joy" by Emmons, which discusses "natural" ways (vitamins, your diet, meditation, etc) to help with depression. The B-vitamins are good to help with serotonin levels.
There isn't anyone of this site who can give you credible advice. This is something that should be discussed with your doctor. Wellbutrin may not be the right drug for you. It could undue everything that has been done in your favor. What I would do is work on the food intake rather than on the drug.
