I have been on lexapro 20 mg for about 9 months..?

Question:
and i have had the most vivid and realistic dreams. some are very frightening and others are very entertaining. i have looked all over the net for a definite answer as to if dreams are side effects, but have found it nowhere. is anyone else out there on it and has weird and crazy dreams, or anyone know if it IS a side-effect?? thanks

Answers:
Vivid dreams are a HUGE side effect of any SSRI such as Lexapro. It is one of the most common side effects of the drug.

I took Lexapro for a while (loved it!) and I had the vivid dreams for sure. Some were so realistic I found myself having to figure out if it really happened or if it was a dream.

The dreams are just a way to show that the drug is working in your system and stimulating your brain.

Best of luck and hope your feeling well!
i'm also on lexapro 20mg... from what i know about the drug, it can help people improve sleep in general, getting more restful sleep -- it may be that your sleeping is improved & you are having more REM cycles, deeper sleep, therefore more dreams.

but that's a guess. it does help me to sleep more soundly though.
im on lexapro too
my dreams are amazingly vivid too
My son and ex-father-in-law have used lexapro for quite a while and have never mentioned that.

You are not, by any chance, using nicotine gum or similar product are you? I really had some vivid dreams when I was chomping too much of that stuff. The herb kava-kava will also do it.
I've been on lexapro for over five years and I can say that I have the strangest dreams, sometime very scarey ones!
