Will I always be afraid?

Question:
A couple of months ago I found out that I had caught head lice from a break out at school. I used a special shampoo and a comb to get it out, and it seemed to be gone until a week later when it started itching again and I found out it wasn't really gone. I applied the shampoos and combed my hair again, and it seemed to work, it's been weeks and my head doesn't itch like it did before. But everynow and then I start thinking about it and my head begins to itch and I don't remember if I thought about it first and then it started to itch or if it itched first and then I thought about it.

My mom says that it doesn't seem like I have it again and that it only itches because I think about it. I don't want to be paranoid anymore and it's taken up most of my summer... I want it gone, ALL OF IT, before school starts again in a couple of weeks...

What do I do? Will I always be afraid of having it or never knowing if it's gone or not??

Answers:
Head lice is a very common problem. Just thinking about it will make your head itch. Its a nasty little pest, Not only do you have to do your hair, but also treat your carpet, pillows, car interior if it is like fabric, and so on. If your hair is long you will need additional lice shampoo for it. If you are using the brands in the store and the lice is back, go to your doctor for stronger strength of head lice shampoo. And you will be afraid no more.

In time your fear should go away. One thing is to remember that even if it comes back, you can treat it. Lice is irritating but treatable. Try to remember that when you get afraid again.
It's probably really gone, but I sure know what you're saying! Every little itch, anything that feels like a bite....

Believe me, others have been there. Truly, once you get rid of them, they're gone.

That doesn't mean the worry will go away immediately. Accept that the next few months anytime you feel something funky (sweat, etc) making your head itch, you will worry.

It will pass. It sux but it will eventually go away.
Yes, oddly enough, lice are odd that way. I worked in schools for many years. Any time any teacher or nurse would talk about lice, EVERY adult in the room would scratch their heads!! It's an odd, memory thing. The word "lice" just makes people think about it & feel like they have it.

Every time you feel that way, yell, "NO!" silently, in your head. (A friend of mine said in her head, "Universe, cancel that!) Then think another thought. If you really do still have the lice, you'll know it soon enough. If you don't, you'll eventually forget about it.

ur fear will probally linger for a alittle bit but it will go away. i think everyone afaid of getting lice and paramoid about it coming back. i know if someone talks about ants or lice or stuff like that they start to itch auomactially.i just recomend not sharing brush make up and keep ur hair up.also use a hir dryer and have someone check ur hair once a week for lice.ive been around people that had lice and never got it.just becareful but dont be paranoid.good luck.i also remeber this girl in my class had lice really bad and it was bad i mean she had bugs piling on her head u could see and she kept coming to school like that her mom neglected her well anyways i reported her to the school nurse because her mom didnt care if other got it.so if someone u know keeps coming to school like that report it to the nurse and princlable.
you will probably always carry this with you and it will/can be triggered anytime. i live in the country and ticks are a big problem. i experience the same thing as you when i find one.

it is our abhorrent fear of parasites or anything that can feed on us.

yikes, it is such a creepy feeling.
