Nobody wants to help me....?

Question:
I am seriously depressed and have been for a couple of years. My bf doesn't want to hear about my problems, and even my doctor seems to be getting fed up with me instead of helping me. I can't get through this on my own, what should I do? I used to have a great counselor, but she moved away and I can't afford the cost anyway.

Answers:
Depression is a physical illness, and needs to be treated by a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist (not because you are crazy, but because psychiatrists are the specialists best trained to treat depression). Often depression needs to be treated with medication, just as in any other medical condition.

There is still alot of ignorance about depression. Clinical depression is not the person's fault, is not a character flaw, and is often not within the person's ability to change without help. There are many effective treatments for depression, and you shouldn't have to suffer. You should also know that depression can be a symptom of many underlying illnesses (thyroid, diabetes are some examples).

Many regular doctors are not up-to-date about the causes and treatment of depression. See if you can get help through a free clinic or a county mental health clinic. If you are in school, talk to the school counselor.

Sometimes depression lifts on its own, but current research is indicating that prolonged depression creates the scene for more and deepening depressions in the future. Therefore, it is very important to treat depression.

Does your family have medical insurance?
u can talk to me, i am a psychologist for free, e-mail me if u like
I'm seriously depressed as well. No one really understands do they? My own mother goes through the same thing but treats mine as just complaining. You'd think she would get it!
All you can do is keep demanding treatment. Keep asking your doctor. There must be free counselling available somewhere. Check with local churches.
I truly hope you find what you're looking for :) Its great that you recognize that you need help- don't give up. Keep fighting until you get it!!
Maybe you could contact your old counsellor and ask him/her.
Good luck!
I would suggest changing to another boyfriend.

There are many people online that will listen to your problems and offer advice. Mush of the advice is free but if it is useful is another story. You can e-mail me if you like. I will offer my advice and/or opinion but I may not have perfect answers.
Hey babe. I've been where u are before. Listen. Just know this, there's nothing you can't get over. Depression is a slippery slope and once you start, it's hard to turn back. So listen up here. Get up tomorrow morning and go into the bathroom. Wash your face and look at yourself in the mirror. Tell yourself that whatever obstacles come today you will do your best to overcome them. Go throughout your day remembering what you promised yourself that morning. Go to bed that night with a smile on your face knowing you did your best. Wake up the next morning and repeat. Just keep pushing babe, get help where you can but don't depend on anyone. Good luck!

What are your problems? Have you tried addressing them? Depression often feeds off something we can change. Your b/f seems a waste of space, he isn't helping at all...sounds almost as if he's part of your problem? And don't underestimate yourself, you can cope, even on your own!! How about joining a Yahoo group where you will be amongst like minded people?
