Does anyone have a close loved one who is schizophrenic and still able to maintain a normal life?

Question:
My ex husband is schizophrenic and mental illness runs highly in his famiy. We have an 8 yr old son who seemed to have showed his first obvious sign of schizophrenia the night before last when he wanted to sleep in my bed because he saw spiders on the ceiling,He already has ADHD. Any sign of hope for my son?

Answers:
I'm really sorry to hear that. However, I wouldn't jump to any conclusions just yet. That's not necessarily an obvious sign of schizophrenia, kids say stuff like that all the time. It couldn't hurt to have him evaluated though.
I agree, have him evaluated.
However in regards to your opening question:
My youngest brother has schizophrenia. His is controlled with meds and he leads a normal life. He has a job, house and GF. They are even talking marriage. He is very happy with his life. If he gets over stressed his parania does flare, but he knows the signs nad has a good network in which to seek help. He also knows he can talk to any of his immediate fam. His GF is a nurse so she is clued in to all the ins and outs.
My brother is 29 and he is leading a normal happy life.
Good Luck with your son.
