Question:
My youngest son was injured severely by an IED in the infamous "Triangle of Death" in Iraq near Christmas of 2005. My middle son is on his fourth deployment of which he is for a second time deployed to Iraq. He is in the U.S. Army. He found out his current deployment would be extended by 3 months through the news media. The Army did not see fit to let the troops know this before it hit the news. He has spent no more than 7 months in the U.S. over the past 5 years. The troops were given very short rests at home between long repeated deployments. It is getting worse over there contrary to what we hear on the news. He has lost friends in battle and I myself have heard my son's unit get attacked the last four out of five times we spoke on the phone. He has seen so much carnage and violence.
My question is: Do any of you know any free support groups for parents and spouses of Soldiers currently deployed in Iraq and Afganastan?
I did start a yahoo group a few days ago.
Thanks.

God bless you, mom. You have two great sons who are fighting for this country, though, I know it doesn't do much for your nerves. Just remember that your sons are both in Gods hands and to pray fervently for their protection. Pray for healing for what they have seen and been through. Pray that they will be out of there as soon as possible. I will pray for your family, too. God bless
I just wanted to tell you that my heart goes out to you and your son (and those brave men and women over there!) God bless you all!
I would suggest you visit the local mental health facitilies, and ask for information. (I don't mean check him in or anything.) Those facilities are the very BEST places for finding resources, and local support groups for ALL different types of things relating to mental health. They'll have addresses, phone numbers, brochures and things. I'm very glad to hear that you are considering this aspect of his health. My own parents don't acknowledge the existance of mental health.
