How do I get over my phobia of vomiting?!?

Question:
I have been dealing with this for 5 months now and I am ready to get over it...only I don't know how. When I get this way, I feel pukey, and shakey and I don't know what to expect! I tell myself that I won't throw up for this...and I pray after that. Please oh please help me!

Answers:
You have emetophobia. That's what I have. It's the fear of vomiting or seeing other's vomit. In some cases, like mine, you have both kinds. I've had it for 5 years now after a bad vomiting experience.
Sometimes this phobia causes anxiety attacks. You get nausea (that causes the pukey feeling, but you wont throw up from it) and shaky and many other harmless symptoms. I'd do some more research on emetophobia and anxiety attacks if I were you, and get some professional help. It's just a fear, and no matter how much you think you'll throw up, if you have no reason to, you wont. Emetophobia and anxiety attacks are scary, but physically harmless.
Good luck!
Vomiting isn't a mental problem, it is a physical one. When you have a sick stomach, it is coming up whether you want it to or not.
I've had a problem that sounds similar to this one- it's anxiety it sounds like, and you should see a therapist or someone to help you figure out what's causing your anxiety.
Fortunately, you're not alone. I know someone who suffers from the same thing. Your phobia is called Emetyphobia, and as far as I know Britney Spears has the same thing.
the best way is to face your fears. get really drunk and puke away!
It is an honour to meet a fellow Emetophobic (one who has phobia of vomiting).

Don't try exposure therapy with a oCD therapist, god, it scared me to death when asked to gag myself.

I've been dealing with this my whole life (nearly 20 years). The best thing to do is conquer it YOURSELF. In your own way. I write a lot, and one story featured a sick man in great detail. I found writing about it, and making it funny (he got sick in front of a marching band at the front of a parade, which was stppoed and in the newspapers). Give yourself little exposures, without making yourself sick.
What are you creative about? You can somehow incorporate that creativity into therapy, and without a therapist.

It helped me alot.
OH my lord I have that phobia too! *hugs* You are the first one I've met! Yeah, I hate vomiting...and when I was little it was worse. But I've basically gotten over it. You probably won't get completely over it...I mean, I'm barely ever sick (I think 4 times in my life and I'm 16...) and the last time was a year ago. When I was...uh...about to puke I was terrified. But when it was going on I was thinking how it really wasn't so bad after all.

My advice: Calm down! Your mind is a very powerful thing, so just take deep breaths, pray, and close your eyes. Think: Realistic Expectations.

You'll be fine. And, I know this sounds completely useless but: don't be afraid.
to the guy who first answered the question, you misunderstood, she asked about having a phobia of vomiting not vomiting.

I also have a phobia of vomiting, just last night i was awake till 4:30am because i felt like i was gonna thrown up. But what i find works is distracting myself with things like a book or watching tv.

hope this helps
