Doctors and medication?

Question:
Doctors and medication?
Alrighty ... I suffer my Anxiety attacks and am on Zoloft and have been for about 4 months now and have to go back for a check up on wednesday. Things I thought were getting better excepct for the last couple of weeks i've gotten really anxious and I had a couple big attacks when out in public. This week coming up I have a big test ... an appointment with my college and then a concent at an arena ( last time i was there about 8 months ago I had a bad attack). I was wondering if on wednesday before these 4 things take place when I go to the doctor if I should see if she would give me ativan or xanax for times that i need to relax myself. I know its not a total fix but i just mean to help me get through big events like these. Any help or knowledge that would help?

Answers:
I would definitely get some Ativan or xanax. That's what they make it for. I take Ativan 2 mg about twice a week for stressful social situations I get into and it really helps. Explain to your doctor that you need help with your panic attacks and you just want to take the medication when needed - not every day. This should not be a problem. Good Luck!
I don't think that having an as needed med is a bad idea. However you may want to try something a little less sedating. Benadryl, vistaril and seroquel work well without the feeling of great fatigue.
Sure, talk to your doc about it. I'm allowed to take an extra pill when I need it. Just be careful you do it only when you need it!!
It is a good choice for you to make to consult with your doctor beforehand. That is wise. I take clonipin for anxiety, and have been tempted to take a few more when extra when stressed out, but it is not a good choice to do unless the doctor advises it.
Hi! I try to think about what I want my doctor to know about my upcoming (actually my psychiatrist always asks) events and things that are going to happen. Meds checks are always important. After all. That is why I am there! Maybe you could ask your doctor about those drugs you are interested in. Sometimes different drugs interact in a way which is counter productive. Just a thought! Hope things go okay!
I'm not sure Ativan is what you need. It can make you very sleepy and you don't want that. Talk to your doctor and see what she thinks would work for you. She will be your best source of information, knowing your history and all.
GOOD LUCK
