My boyfriend doesn't understand my eating disorder...Help!?

Question:
My boyfriend thinks that I have control over my compulsive overeating, but I am actually out of control with it...and I can't say no to food! I am going to a therapist about this, and I am going to my first Compulsive overeating group therapy session on friday! But how can I explain to him that eating disorders is an illness and not something that I have control over?

Answers:
Fidn a habit that he has, no matter how miniscule it seems, and try parallelling the two.

Try taking him to a group session if they will allow it.

Try taking him to you therapist for an intructory session with him/her and they can explain it to him.
If you didn't have control over your eating then you wouldn't be able to eat.
You do it because you believe it gives you something. on an emotional level,
yet intellectually you perfectly understand it isn't working, or maybe not.

So my advice:
Without judging yourself, just watch the process. see clearly it doesn't give you what you believe it does.
That's it. Then there is no reason to continue whatsoever. and you stop.
