Do I have to take the Risperdal every night? If I am already tired?

Question:
If I take the Risperdal to go to sleep, but I am tired or have to wake up in 5 hours and don't want to be groggy, do I need to take it? Or is a medicine you take every day to get the benefits. I already took it, and it the first few days and to be honest i don't like it. I'm having an anxiety attack..my chest feels heavy and I feel weird.

Answers:
Basically depends on what you are taking the meds for. Call your doctor and explain what is going on with you. He/she needs to know EVERYTHING about it.

Take care of yourself, but you need to be asking the doctor about this, not us. He/she knows whats wrong with you.

Anxiety attacks can be symptoms of something else being wrong with you. I have them because of menopause.

Good luck and get help soon.
Unless your doctor told you otherwise I would say yes, some meds have to build up a blood level, and if you are starting and stopping and taking it randomly you won't be able to maintain a therapeutic blood level. You should always ask your doctor how to take your meds, not people on yahoo.
Risperdal is a drug that will effect you immediately, as opposed to some drugs which can take a few weeks to become therapeutic.
Your body will need time to adjust to the medicine - it's normal to feel groggy / lethargic for the first few days. Don't hesitate to call your M.D. with your concerns though. It's better to be safe than sorry!

P.S.
Are you taking Risperdal solely for sleep? Just wondering - I have never seen it prescribed for sleep..
ahhh.its not a sleeping pill its an antipsychotic. Its for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
