Alternatives to valium? Maybe, natural sedatives?
Question:
But for the moment, is there anything I can do? Tried sleep, prayer, a hot bath, meditation, self-acupressure, self massage, hot tea, distraction, even orgasm.
I don't drink or use illegal drugs.. and obviously it has to be something I can get a hold of without a prescription
Any suggestions?
Answers:
Sleepytime Extra Tea with Valerian--available either in the tea or vitamin section of almost all supermarkets, Walmart, health food stores, etc.
If you have no problem with the tea (weak doseage of Valerian), then you can try Valerian Root supplements (also in the vitamin aisle of supermarkets, Walmart, etc.)
***I'm assuming that you are close to or over 18--read labels carefully***
Lavender incense, candles, air freshening products, bath & body products, detergents, etc. are very relaxing. Buy a candle or pack of incense today.
Chamomile tea is also very relaxing--try some
As someone else said, walking and exercise is very helpful.
St. John's Wort (that someone else mentioned) is usually used for mild to moderate depression--not anxiety.
Milk and turkey have sedating qualities--but are usually used more for sleep--if all else fails, give them a try, though.
Feel better--I know about anxiety--up close and personal.
Have you tried exercise? Or if you have a dog taking him/her for a walk, for example the beach or dog park. I have found that taking my dog out for exercise or fun is a good way of relaxing just watching how unconditional their love, curiosity and freedom from the human rat race can help stop that feeling of being on a Hamster wheel slow down or stop the mind and body from spinning. Try it, it might help. I've also found sleepy time tea with a little bit of honey and music by Yanni or a good book can be helpful as well.
I would suggest going to see your doctor, so he or she can prescribe you something for your anxiety. As far as I know there is nothing over the counter. People swear by Saint Johns Wart.
It's a herb you can get in capsule form. You can buy them at a health food store, but I would really go see your doctor. Your doctor can prescribe you something that will help you better then anything over the counter. Good Luck.!! Feel Better..!!
