Is This "Normal" Behavior For The Elderly?
Question:
Her memory is almost gone and she forgets everything in seconds. In example is when she eats her dinner that the aide gives her and maybe 5 minutes after she eats she is banging on the stairs saying that she is hungry and she didn't eat anything.
Another thing is that she always complains that she is cold. It is almost 100 degrees out and the aides are sweating miserably. My grandmother refuses to have the air on, windows and doors open; no air in the house and she is covered in blankets despite the very humid weather. She and the aides always fight when they insist on opening a window.
Is this what you would call "normal" behavior for people of that age? How common is this type of behavior?
Answers:
This is not normal behavior. She has signs of dementia, She needs to see her doc for a diagnosis and to see if her type of dementia is treatable at all once she gets a diagnosis. Dementia is common but NOT NORMAL. Normal elderly behave just like you and I do except that the may walk and move slower or not hear and see as well.
Sweety she's 92! She's cold because her veins are thin and she probably has no body fat anymore. You know no insulation anymore. She's probably got alzhemiers too. How sharp do you think you'll be at 92? Sounds like she might be better off in a "highly recommended" nursing home. Just do your homework before putting her in one. Check with your state find out which ones rank the highest in quality.
Don't mean to be so rude but come on she's 92.
